Yeah. That’s why the majority of the last 100 or so comments on this thread refer to those “idiotic” claims you allege. Most of the comments took place over several days, and nearly the entire blog posse made an appearance. Some showed up many times. All took their ball and stomped home.

None of you libs thought to refer to J.M.’s statement as a “casual guesstimate”…until ol’ dano alluded to that possiblity today. Instead, over the past 4 days we’ve had lib after lib after lib try to prove J.M’s “casual guesstimate” as somehow being a known fact. Even a college president led that charge, initially (gee, like, can you imagine THAT?).

According to Walmart’s 2010 Consolidated Statement of Income, their “cost of goods sold” was about $305 billion. According to readily retrieved and thus far undisputed data, Walmart imported $30 billion in goods from China. That is “cost”, John, and is included in “cost of goods sold.”

The “margin” you tout is derived when you subtract all Operating expenses($384 billion) from all Revenue from operations ($408 billion)…which is $24 billion. Walmart’s NOI (net operating income) in 2010 was 5.9%.

In other words, Walmart makes about 5.9 cents profit for every dollar of revenue…from which it must pay costs for interest, leases, etc.

But then, as a business-person, you already knew all that, didn’t you?

I also don’t think Frank understands that just because they are paying a smaller amount than 90% of their revenue for what they buy from China that it takes margins into account or that they may make a better margin on those products on top of the better price.
