Believe it or not on the Thursday OPEN thread

Love it, saw this floating around on facebook yesterday! Thanks Dan!
The billboard campaign comes to Roanoke… though I’m hearing they couldn’t find a place to do it in Lynchburg. Not sure if that is true, or if it is something that’s been passed around.
holy cow. wow. dija see what was reported Tuesday by the state department?
yep. seems the Benghazi fiasco was the result of “systemic management and leadership failures at the State Department”, which “led to “grossly” inadequate security at the mission in Benghazi”. so says the AP, as reported in Wednesday’s RTs. strangely, ….there was NO mention of the “movie trailer”…nor of what drove Obama and Hillary to spend our tax dollars on to produce an “apology commenrcial” and air it on Pakistani TV.
If’n only the state department had watched the news as reported by FOX, they could have issued their “report” 75 days ago. SHEESH.
Here’s the rest of the story! And, I’m not kidding! The report goes on to say… “no individual officials ignored or violated their duties, and recommended no disciplinary action now.”
I’m serious. you can’t make this stuff up! In other words, the report says, “you all are idiots in terms of leadership and management…and your ineptness has resulted in 4 murdered Americans, including one of our best Ambassadors. however, you are left in your leadership and management posts (the following are my words: ’cause we’re libs, and you’re libs), …and you better not let that happen again”.
Do ya wanna know who made up that story Obama and hillary fanned as the cause of the Benghazi inferno?
I bet Barack Hussein Obama fabricated it together, because, after all, he is smarter than everyone else. uh huh.
I said a prayer for these folks. I hope they can open their hearts and minds.
Frank, the Benghazi report specifically cited a number of things that were 100 percent WRONG in the reports by Fox News.
Among those:
“The report found “no evidence of undue delays in decision making or denial of support from Washington.”
Instead, the report concluded that the response by all agencies involved was “timely and appropriate,” and despite speculation to the contrary, “there simply was not enough time given the speed of the attacks for armed U.S. military assets to have made a difference.”
“Another accusation rebutted by the report was the notion that senior-level officials had in some way refused to permit CIA operatives working out of a nearby annex to travel to the main compound to assist in repelling the attack. That detail, first reported by Fox News, was not correct, the report said.
Instead, a “team leader” at the annex had “decided on his own” to delay leaving the facility briefly to see if local security elements would arrive with reinforcements. After “a brief delay,” and determining that they would not, the team leader made the decision to move some units toward the compound, the report said.”
“The report found that Stevens did not appear to have been captured by the militants at any point, despite early photographs that appeared to show his body being dragged through the streets. Instead, the report said that “to the best knowledge of the Board” he was delivered, unresponsive, to a local hospital by six “good Samaritans” who were among the hordes of attackers.”
“while the report does not focus on the more heated controversy about how the Obama administration opted to share information with the public about the raid, it does make clear that the initial claim that the attack was simply an outgrowth of a larger protest is not correct. There was no protest outside the compound, the report states.”

Ed maybe they aren’t the ones who need to open their minds.
I haven’t been out here much lately but Frank are you Suzie’s husband? I know she vowed to leave but I didn’t believe that for a second and I wouldn’t put it past her to start blogging as someone else. She’s done it before.
I find it stunning that 4 dead in Benghazi took more jobs than 3000 dead on 9/11. The lack of accountability under the Bush administration is noteworthy.
Fox News was not the only station that carried this report on Benghazi. I guess it depends on who you believe. Also it was real convenient for Hillary to have health problems when she was supposed to testify.
4 dead. obamas fault…end of story
I saw this on a post by WDBJ on Facebook. The comments on it were rather, um, interesting.
The CoR lists several area groups on their site, including the one run by Justin True, and another group headed by someone I know personally.
26 dead. nras fault…end of story
People have every right to not believe in God and to join together in that effort. It takes courage to step out onto a limb you know people will be salivating to cut off and feel led by their religious conviction to do so. I believe in God, but I have serious questions and heartache over what I see on this earth. Who wouldn’t?
“26 dead. nras fault…end of story”
It’s more Obama’s fault as the NRA. He’s the President and he did nothing. The NRA doesn’t even hold an office. The school was solely depending on the government to defend them. How did that work out?
26 dead. nras fault…end of story
Comment by Sandi Saunders — December 20, 2012 @ 1:09 pm
This is an insulting post and should be deleted by the FAP (First Amendment Police. . .aka. . .Dan)
It’s funny that they never mention Allah. It’s as if they have a complete disregard for Islam. It’s rather bigoted that they are so Judeo-Christian focused.
Kinda funny they have a club that doesn’t believe in something. Like the He-Man Woman Haters Club.
It said in the wdbj article that they couldn’t get the billboard up in Lynchburg. OtherJohn, I read the comments and found them surprisingly moderate.
They apparently believe in a country that is not a Theocracy. The NRA is a club that doesn’t believe in gun control, is that “Kinda funny”? I would beg to disagree with you, it appears the NRA holds several offices, by the ear, tightly. And they did much, much more than “nothing”.
Interesting that Leon finds my mockery of pammala’s insult, too insulting to stand…while not even noticing her’s.
So do you reject that Allah is just God in another language, Henry? Or do you think Islam worships some other God?
o man. not now. i am too tired.. oohhh, not now, either. i have a head ache. …and, YES, i’ll be HAPPY AS CAN BE to be president!
what movie trailer? you mean the one that barack made up the cover-up story about? …and sold to Pakistani tv…? oh man, THAT movie trailer got barack’s dander up big time.
…government performance standards involving lousy, sorry, inept, leadership and management…, results in NO ONE being guilty of anything other than incompetence! everyone gets a trophy! no one did anything wrong!
So a Neocon think tank does a “nonpartisan” report on Benghazi. Color me unimpressed. Jobs, people, jobs.
no islam worships a man that was born of a whore, read up
Snow in the Midwest – Obama’s fault.
Men escaped from Chicago prison – Obama’s fault.
Gas prices down 10 cents – Obama’s fault
Mayan prediction of world’s end – Obama’s fault.
These are just as ridiculous as blaming the President for the deaths of 26 in CT as in post @13…think that one may be the top stupid post of Dec 2012…
I can’t believe that the report doesn’t list all that torturing and raping that Frank promised would be proven to us. Come on, Frank, what’s up with that?
Paul, the man help put up the billboards here in Roanoke, were turned down in Lynchburg.
“islam worships a man that was born of a whore,”
And….?
Didn’t Jesus tell us that a whore was just as good as anybody else?
Really pammalla…like an unwed mother maybe?
The stupid burns.
Frank, the Benghazi report specifically cited a number of things that were 100 percent WRONG in the reports by Fox News.
So a review panel formed and by the State Department, an arm of the obama administration exonerated the obama administration of wrongdoing. Wow. Who would have expected that?
Fortunately, so many Democrats are the low-enformation voters that couldn’t care less as long as them goodies keep rolling in.
Pammala @2:19
Ok, are you referring to Muhammad? When Muslims say “Allah,” they are speaking of God, not Muhammad . They believe in the same one God as the other Abrahamic religions, like Christianity, Judaism, and Baha’i.
As for the “born of a whore” comment, well, I’d love to “read up.” Please list your scorces. I have read that Muhammad is claimed to be a descendant of Ismail, who was himself an illegitimate son of Abraham (his mother was Hagar, Abraham’s wife’s handmaid).
By the bible and the Koran, we are all whores.
Oops! scorces = sources. Sorry if my typo confused ya, pammala.
Oh, one more thing, pammela, regarding whores. Perhaps you should “read up,” starting with Luke 7:36. Jesus is forgiving. Are you?
Suzie,
you capture it perfectly.
..and, before this is all finished, they’ll all give themselves awards…kinda like dan rather got when he created the “Rathergate” fiasco (at least no one died in THAT lie) concerning his lies about W in 2004.
One wonders if Falwellton, aka Lynchburg, would allow billboards that said “Only Republicans can truly love Jesus”?
Another one of Frank’s bold predictions is circling around down the throne on the way to the sewer. Who’d a guessed? At least he learned a new three syllable word.
hey dan,
since there was no riot party outside the consulate in Benghazi, and at least some in obama’s administration dismissed such as unfounded just days after the cooridinated assault on the consulate occurred….why, oh why.. did OBAMA stick with the riot party of peeved muslims over that movie trailer….even as late as his address at the UN?
Was he simply pulling the ol’, “that’s my story, and I’m sticking to it” routine? Or, is he ill-informed? Or, since he certainly knew about factions in his administration which no longer believed that his made-up movie-trailer “riot-party” routine worked any longer…and no longer had even a remote possiblity of being true….why did he stick with THAT schtick at the UN speech?
Who told obama that THAT was the way to go? Eh? I mean, obama’s not stupid, is he?
To ALL who oppose the billboards: The billboards are for those who do not know there is support for their belief in particular and their way of life.
We are NOT trying to be against any religion. We are simply trying to build a community of non-theists to support ourselves and stop the bastardization of our names, Atheists, Agnostics, and non-theists.
Many religions claim to have all the secrets to life, morality, reasoning, and so on. We, as Atheists, can refute that religion does not. Religion can have this debate against us saying that they do. But, that isn’t what these billboards are about.
I am the proud Organizer of Southern Virginia Atheists. I am a father, a daddy, a Marine, a voter, tax payer, a full time college student, your neighbor. Myself and my fellow members and many millions of other Atheists across this country do all of these things and more without having the feeling of being supervised by god(s). We want all the other Atheists to know that there are groups of us out here to build a community with. There are Atheist parents out here who raise their beautiful children with pride, morality, and a sense of duty to do right by them.
The citizens of Roanoke and Southern Virginia who feel they need to take their religion and plug it into this thread to make a point that their belief is more right than mine. I respect your opinion, but we do not have to take it anymore. The days of intimidating us into silence is over. We are here to stay.
Thanks to, Dan Casey, for putting this Post up for our Atheist society! Thank you for giving us a voice where without good open-minded journalists like yourself, we would have no voice.
Cheers!
Well my fellow bloggers, it is my hope that the Mayan calendar is wrong. Nonetheless, in case it isn’t, I’ve really enjoying participating on this blog the last couple of years. I’ve even enjoyed sparring with those with whom I disagree. It is my hope that should the world come to an end tomorrow, as the Mayans have predicted, that Dan can start a new blog in the afterworld that comes after the end of this one. God’s speed everyone!! With tongue firmly in check I bid you all adieu!!
Since this is an open thread, Here is a funny bit of info about a movie, i have read some of the jack reacher novels. They are pretty good actiom stories. Jack reacher is a big, imposing man who stands 6’5″. So they cast Tom Cruise, who goes about a foot short of that, in the role? Funny.
Old blue,
Those Jack Reacher novels are pretty good ones. I like’m. I would never have imagined Tom Cruise in the role of Jack Reacher, though. I imagined anyone who is at least 6 inches taller.
Old Blue, glad I helped you remember “Why Walk Whey You Can Fly.”
If you could see any band in concert, past or present, what band would you choose? My first choise would be Fourplay with Bob James, a jazz group. Following close behind would be the Allman Bros.
Love to hear from others?
Thanks to, Dan Casey, for putting this Post up for our Atheist society! Thank you for giving us a voice where without good open-minded journalists like yourself, we would have no voice.
Justin,
Dan was born Catholic. I sense he is now considering returning to that faith, but is unsure how others might react.
So a Neocon think tank does a “nonpartisan” report on Benghazi.
Of course. The obama state department is filled with neocons.
Amazing the panel found fault, but no one in the administration who committed it. That one required some juggling.
Ron, I’ve always enjoyed your posts, and I’ve read enough of them to know that you know the Mayans never predicted the world was coming to an end. Makes for a neat conversation piece though, and good fodder for the late night monologues. Reminds me of that preacher that said he knew the date of the rapture.
..and, before this is all finished, they’ll all give themselves awards…kinda like dan rather got when he created the “Rathergate” fiasco (at least no one died in THAT lie) concerning his lies about W in 2004.
Exactly, Frank.
gee, is it a “club”, or a …”church”?
I wonder why those who “believe in nothing” want to solicit money for umm “nothing”.
Looks like somebody is getting rich on the “nothing” sheeples…
Mikeo, please point out for me the part where anyone’s asking for money. Asking for money like Fallwell, Shuler, Roberts, Robertson, Osteen,Graham, Hagee, Bakker, and a host of other “Christians” whose prime directive is fleecing the flock.
Yo, Frank.
You can quit speaking in pammalese. Caught your post over on Medbeat, you fix up pretty nice when you want to.
Looks like the Speaker didn’t have control of his own members. Wonder what is next??
http://www.nytimes.com/2012/12/21/us/politics/house-moves-toward-vote-on-boehners-backup-plan.html?emc=na&_r=0
Suzie, Dan, is a grown and open man. He can do what he wants as far as his faith goes. No one is downing or trying to bash that. I hope he finds what makes himself happy.
mike o, I am relatively sure you didn’t wonder anything. Someone in charge of the treasury from your church emailed you that and you copy pasted that to this blog… you are so cute… trying to be a “big boy” and think for yourself! Time to go night night…
dobbs,
i hope these cartoons linked below open properly. I think they explain some of the discussion about the Mayan calendar we’ve been having lately.
http://wyblog.us/blog/sophie/mayan-calendar-cartoons.html
…looks like the government of checks and balances is working.
You would think they would tire of proving me so right…apparently not. These are truly gifts that keep on giving.
mikeo..
“I wonder why those who “believe in nothing” want to solicit money for umm “nothing”.
Where do you get this stuff from? A lack of belief in god does not mean atheists believe in nothing. Did you hear that on the Trinity Broadcasting Network?
Wow, Boehner’s time as speaker seems to be up.
here is THE most audacious statement made by Obama…yet:
“After what we’ve been through over the past several months, a devastating hurricane and now one of the worst tragedies in our memory, the country deserves the folks to be willing to compromise for the greater good”.
yep. In ONE sentence, HE publicly politicized, for his base and for HIS political gain, the devastation caused by hurricane sandi. HE publicly politicized, for his base and for HIS political gain, the horrible, senseless, tragic deaths of those 20 young children and 6 educaters in Newtown, CT….just as their burials began.
Shame.
How is someone ‘born Catholic’?
You would think they would tire of proving me so right…apparently not. These are truly gifts that keep on giving.
Sorry, babe. The boss will spend your ‘gift’ on his next tax bill.
It takes courage to step out onto a limb you know people will be salivating to cut off and feel led by their religious conviction to do so.
It doesn’t really take much courage to stand for nothing. A lot of people in this country do that.
Looks like the Speaker didn’t have control of his own members.
Yeah, thank God.
I can see where the calls of bias on the Benghazi report come from for those with only malice aforethought.
Afterall, President George H.W. Bush appointed Thomas R. Pickering to United States Ambassador to the United Nations in 1989 with an almost unanimous vote of the Senate.
And Admiral Mike Mullen served as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff from 2007-2011.
With “Obamanistas” like that for Chairmen, how could they not be biased to find all fault in favor of anyone except Obama?
http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/post-partisan/wp/2012/12/20/two-words-missing-from-benghazi-report/
Frank, for a guy who pushed a vicious and heinous untruth about Ambassador Stevens’ death, I find it funny that you take such exception to President Obama mentioning the huge protests in multiple cities and countries over the offensive “film” in his speech.
Was James Clapper lying when he admitted his office gave Susan Rice those erroneous “talking points” you keep whining over?
http://www.dni.gov/index.php/newsroom/press-releases/96-press-releases-2012/731-statement-by-the-odni-s-director-of-public-affairs-on-intelligence-related-to-the-terrorist-attack-on-the-u-s-consulate-in-benghazi
But please, don’t let little things like facts and the truth get in your way.
Mike O, whom are quoting when you posted those who “believe in nothing”? Not believing in God does not mean they believe in nothing. And seriously, they would have to have a lot more “sheeples” to become even half as rich as charlatan “Christians” and you know it.
“Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity. Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone,” Colossians 4:5-6
(in case you just forgot how to behave with unbelievers)
Who did Jesus bring to God with ridicule? Who will know you are Christian by your love?
“But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect.” 1 Peter 3:15
uh, yes sandi. that james clapper guy was OBVIOUSLY lying. duh.
Well, that didn’t take long. WDBJ reporting one of the billboards has been vandalized.
Another Grandin Village shop closing, Surf and Turf, and again, blaming it on the poor economy??Christians and Atheists, try the k-guards Frank Beamer is endorsing, had’em for seven years, swear to,,,woops,,sorry, they do work,,
Sandi 65
You might want to heed the verse you quoted.
“Looks like the Speaker didn’t have control of his own members. Wonder what is next??”
Funny to hear right wingers claiming Obama lacks leadership. Looks like that problem is Boehner’s. And it’s quite obviously the far right boneheads who are determined to wreck our economy. What dolts.
“Fortunately, so many Democrats are the low-enformation voters…”
Speaking of low-information. And sorry, suzie, the “e” is nowhere near the “i.” That’s not a “typo.”
RE: 47.I wonder why those who “believe in nothing” want to solicit money for umm “nothing”.
Looks like somebody is getting rich on the “nothing” sheeples…
Sorry, Mike O., you are dead wrong on both your statements.
1. If you want to use the word “believe”, we definitely believe in reason, science, evidence, and taking complete responsibility for our own lives and for how we treat others and this planet….And, we believe in the right of all people to “believe” or not…as they see fit.
2. The billboards are NOT soliciting money in any way, shape, or form…..in fact, if you go to the website listed on the billboards, you will see that it is not allowed in any way. Our groups do NOT solicit money from anyone for anything. We are NOT a church and we do not conduct ourselves as one. We are simply there for like-minded people to have a social outlet where others don’t judge them. We are also there to stand up for human rights….even your own.
3. “Sheeples” call to mind people who look up to one leader of some kind without opposition….usually one who does solicit money from them and who does control their lives….as in congregations and churches. That is abhorrent to a non-theist. We are the opposite of that. We all have minds of our own and no one is “above” anyone else. Just try to brainwash or control an atheist….not gonna happen, I promise you. We agree on some things and disagree on others but always enjoy the camaraderie of being around non-judgmental, caring, and thoughtful people in the non-theist community.
The billboards are simply there to let non-believers (who often feel totally isolated around here…especially during the religous holidays) know that they are not alone and that they have someone who feels as they do to converse and socialize with. We are tired of being marginalized and treated as non-citizens just because we prefer to use critical thinking and live our lives in an evidence-based world.
As Robert Green Ingersoll said: “I know that men do as they must with the light they have, and so I say…….More Light!
I wish you peace, hope, and most of all Enlightenment in the New Year!
This guy needs to apologize for suzie, as well.
“I am a Christian.
I am a pastor.
I am a father.
As all three of these things, I apologize to the world (and to the victims of the Sandy Hook shooting), for Mike Huckabee and James Dobson.
This week, these “representatives” of Christianity in the American media, have done what they seem bent on doing and content to do in times of tragedy; they have stood on top of someone else’s pain and grief, while preaching a message of dreadfully misplaced, fear-infused hatred and horribly dangerous theology.”
http://johnpavlovitz.wordpress.com/2012/12/18/mike-huckabee-james-dobson-and-a-pastors-apology/
Suzie:
“Dan was born Catholic.”
Dan was no more born Catholic than you were born Republican.
Most people don’t know the Senate has already passed a bill, all Boehner has to do is send it to the president. Once again, 30 odd teabaggers are holding America hostage.
The sign vandalized in Salem is so childish and despicable. I am glad to say that we, Atheists, do not feel the need to fight our battles with vandalism, terrorism, and fear. We fight our battles with intelligence, wit, tenacity, by way of our voice and a pen.
I am not going to be as cliched and say that,”If this were a Christian sign___” fill in the blank. I was expecting it, but hoped that the community would have been a bit more mature about it. I hope that the leaders of the religious communities speak out against this, as I have with my groups. I will never condone bullying, violence, hatred, towards any religious belief. We can reason and speak together about our issues rather than doing things such as vandalizing others property.
Take a moment of silence at 9:30 today in remembrance of the vicitms of the Newtown shootings.
” fear-infused hatred and horribly dangerous theology.”
What a drama queen. Muslims are blowing up people all over the world and this guy is silent. Gangbangers are shooting up neighborhoods in Chicago and this guy is silent. But let someone disagree with him politically and he calls their speech “dangerous”.
OK Pastor Pavlovitz. If these people’s thoughts are so “dangerous”, maybe we should make them wear a gold star so we can recognize them. If it saves the life of one child, wouldn’t it be worth it?
If you wanted to put up a billboard that said “Don’t believe Obama was born in the US? Join the club”, don’t be surprised if people turn you down. I have never seen an “atheist” group that wasn’t actually an Anti-Theist group. Hopefully, you are the first.
Why do atheists groups talk about God and religion so much?
Suzie,
I think if, Dan, did in fact start to practice the Catholic tradition once again, he would remain open-minded and still give others in our community free speech and a voice on his blog. I think, Dan, understands what tolerance really means, whereas others like yourself fall short of that.
I disagree with just about all that you post here, the main thing that I vehemently disagree with that you support is forced prayer and censorship for our fellow citizens. The fact that you can’t fathom something such as true freedom is sad.
Debbie, will do! I can’t read any stories of them beautiful children… I just can’t get through the articles. I can’t imagine the heartache and loss the families and the town is going through. Mine and my families hearts go out to them!
gdad, Comment by gdad — December 21, 2012 @ 12:05 am
I think that Suzie, and mike o, need to apologize as well… It amazes me how tragedies such as this will bring the most unfounded of reasons. I am glad I was “born” atheist so I don’t have to defend such insane statements.
Suzie, coming from you, that is rich indeed. Find a time when I have EVER spoken to non-Christians in the manner you, Mike O, Leon, Pistol Pete and others have over their convictions.
Thanks Debbie, I will do so.
I am loving reading the Christmas memories in the paper. Anyone else like that?
I’m loving reading them too, Sandi. I am a sentimental person.
Well I woke up this morning & it was snowing and the wind was blowing, but the world still was here. So I thought sending you all the song linked below would be appropriate. Have a great day fellow bloggers!!!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NRY3aKx8bKg
Mike3, the Surf and Turf closing has already been discussed pretty thoroughly on another blog. The place is closing because it had become disgusting and the food had declined.
“Well, that didn’t take long. WDBJ reporting one of the billboards has been vandalized.”
It’s amazing the number of Christians who are apparently so unsure of their beliefs that they are traumatically threatened by a simple billboard. And then you have folks like suzie who have to call atheists and non-Christians names.
Suzie, coming from you, that is rich indeed. Find a time when I have EVER spoken to non-Christians in the manner you, Mike O, Leon, Pistol Pete and others have over their convictions.
Comment by Sandi Saunders — December 21, 2012 @ 8:27 am
I completely agree, Ms. Saunders! When we have discussed religion on this blog, you have always been warm and receptive, and very respectful I might add! I along with other people with different beliefs than yourself appreciate it. I will always pay your kindness, and reason, to others as I discuss the topics of religion with others.
Rep. Steven LaTourette of Ohio said…”“It’s the continuing dumbing down of the Republican Party, and we are going to be seen, more and more, as a bunch of extremists that can’t even get the majority of our own people to support the policies we’re putting forward,” he said. “If you’re not a governing majority, you’re not going to be a majority very long.”
Members sat stunned by the speaker’s admission, unsure of what it meant for the fiscal cliff negotiations. The speaker pledged to call the president, said one attendee, but few members had high hopes House Republicans could cut a deal or pass legislation.
“Well, I don’t know that there is a next step. We’re not coming back until after Christmas and maybe never,” said LaTourette, who’s retiring.
LaTourette added that this wasn’t just a blow to the negotiations over taxes and spending but a mark on the party itself.
The Republicans, once again, show their comtempt for the American people, a contempt bluntly demonstrated in their refusal to consider any reasonable compromise with President Obama to avoid the so-called “fiscal cliff” on December 31. They know from the election results (and every poll) that the public believes taxes should be raised on the wealthy. They know that the public wants bipartisan compromise.
Actions of the Republican Party in the summer of 2011, when they held the national debt ceiling hostage, supposedly to reduce spending, and succeeded only in damaging both the nation’s credit rating and the economic recovery was the first indication of its lack of fitness to be in leadership. This latest episode, last night, is a further indication that the Republicans are unfit to be in leadership. Perhaps the voters will finally understand that the Republicans are unwilling or unable to participate in finding a reasonable solution to the problems we face and will vote them out in 2014.
Ron, very well put. I have more confidence every day that the majority of the American people understand the dysfunction driving the Republican Party. Public polling on taxes and gun control favor the President’s efforts to find the middle ground.
The tide is turning! Happy 12/21/2012, the first day of the rest of our lives!
Art, wrong about the Senate Bill. The House has passed the only bill and it sits on Reid’s desk…as usual.
Obama job approval – 56%
Congress – 18%
People know exactly where the blame lies.
Nosaj asked: “If you could see any band in concert, past or present, what band would you choose?” Creedence Clearwater Revival ♫”You can’t go wrong if you play a little bit of that Creedence song”♫ Second would be anything Springsteen, I LOVE that man.
Justin True, please call me Sandi, we are friends and I respect you greatly! You are a great addition to our Cheers. ♫”Where everybody knows your name…”♫
Sandi, CCR is a fine choice. I am biased for sure, but the music of the the mid-1960s and the early 1970s is, well, the BEST!
Just to let all know, the sign in the picture was vandalized Wednesday night, and then completely torn down last night by some classless, degenerate, criminals! Supposedly, we Atheists are the immoral ones?? Really? I hope they catch whomever done this. This is insane.
Justin True:
“Just to let all know, the sign in the picture was vandalized Wednesday night, and then completely torn down last night by some classless, degenerate, criminals!”
Some WWJD behavior for sure.
Justin True – I find it pretty ironic that the picture was vandalized. Touchy christian types, for sure.
And somehow I missed the conversation about concerts: Jethro Tull.
JustinTrue, sad. Unfortunately the sign was a victim of its own publicity. If it hadn’t been so widely reported, I doubt most people would have even known about it. As it is, some dumb redneck is waking up to a raging shine hangover and wondering why he’s all bruised and his hands are all cut up.
I am truly sorry to hear that Justin. Some people will stop at nothing to feel persecuted, apparently not even persecution.
Absolutely Nosaj! That was some fine music and it is still good stuff all these decades later.
“Art, wrong about the Senate Bill.”
Wrong, AC.
Art, the senate has a proposed bill that they have blue flagged.
I will repeat, the house has passed the only bill. The senate has done nothing
In 3.5 years, including passing a budget.
Miriam, Jethro Tull would be awesome! Just might listen to some tonight.
Kristen, You made me giggle! My thoughts exactly.
I know that my belief and the beliefs of many others in the valley do not walk hand-in-hand with the Christian outlook, but I hope that the people responsible will feel ashamed and embarrassed at their hate and bigotry towards others simply because they lead a different life.
I will say this, if a religious establishment were to be vandalized and an Atheist were to have committed that crime, I would be the first one there to clean, and raise money to help replace the property.
People work hard for the things they have, and its sad that we have to worry about things like this today.
It is just so frustrating. We are peaceful, and intend to forever be peaceful. But ignorant cowards will be cowards.
Another Chuck – I think you mean “blue slipping”. Blue slipping is the procedure the House of Representatives uses to shelve tax bills initiated by the Senate, which, according to the Constitution, can’t be the starting point for legislation that raises revenue.
So the stalling tactics and obstructionism all stem from the House which is presently controlled by the Republican majority.
Miriam:
+1 on the Tull concert.
I’m still trying to figure out how, as ‘suzie’ says, someone is ‘born Catholic’. I thought we were all born sinners.
I’m not one to defend SuzieQ on this blog, nontheless, my sense of what SuzieQ was saying was akin to one being born into a Catholic family, a Presbyterian family, an Episcopalian family, a Baptist family or a Methodist family. We are born into the families we are born into. Typically, we are reared in the belief system that exists in that family.
