Fido has a ‘bowl with’ on the Wednesday OPEN thread

Submitted by Jim Bullington, retired owner of the Texas Tavern.

“The way corporate media likes to portray America is as a homogenous whole that high-fives each other at the Super Bowl. But what we have is a grotesque disparity between the rich and poor that is only getting wider.
Tom Morello

I cannot imagine having a dog in my home that had eaten that chile. I’d be outsourcing the walks for a while.

Speaking of a bowl full of chili, the link below gives some interesting early news on the upcoming Governor’s race in Virginia. :)

Look out, Sandi, you’ve got pammala stalking you on FB now.

I saw that last night Justin and thought the same thing. Kinda shows you 1) how devoid of actual “news” our community has due to slow/stagnate growth and 2) how the philosophy has changed at 7 to embrace Channel 10′s sensational mentality, apparently in an attempt to keep viewers. Maybe the real sadness is that this is what our community accepts as news.

It’s a tragic story, yes, but the second kid from the right is going to be alright. If everyone could remain as cool as this cat, we’d all get along better.

    hey folks,

Has anyone heard that Ken Cuccinelli, our illustrious AG, has succeeded in beating back the EPA’s efforts to regulate water as a “pollutant”? Yep! Cuccinelli, that bastion of conservative values, and stawlart defender of individual and states’ rights, had joined the fray which Fairfax County’s (the heavily populated by libs region in Northern Virginia…) Board of Supervisors found themselves facing with the good ol’ lib-populated and driven EPA. Yep, I beleive I saw something about Mr. Cuccinelli the lawsuit in a Roanoke Times editorial, but thus far, I have seen nothing about Ken’s victory show up in the Roanoke Times. Now, its possible that the RTs HAS placed the news about Ken’s victory against the federal government over-reach in the paper, or on-line, and if so, I gladly stand corrected.

However, if they haven’t, hmmm. Is there some dastardly plot festering below the surface at the RTs? Could it be that the folks over at that bastion of all things lib just can’t bring themselves to announce anything good about the AG, since he’s running for Governor? Are they stacking the deck in favor of billary’s big lib-Terry McAluiffe, from, ahh, Faifax County, also known as the “$2000, double-barrelled, $2000 shotgun-toting” gubernatorial hopeful from the dem side?

Please note, I saw this headline on-line (not in the Roanoke Times) on January 3, 2013: “Judge slaps down EPA bid to regulate water as a pollutant”.

Seems to me that the RTs believes that it’s readers are NOT entitled to know about Mr. Cuccinelli’s successful defense against federal government over-reach.

However, it’s possible that the RTs HAS put this announcement in the paper, or on-line, and if so, I say, good for them!

Still Learning: Maybe the real sadness is that this is what our community accepts as news.

I heard a radio ad (during my pre-Pandora days of radio surfing) featuring one of the NRV television news broadcasters and how they always start their evening news with “good news.” This is Still Learning’s sadness. Information doesn’t have a positive or negative quality–the source providing the information and the source receiving the information decides whether or not news is good or bad, happy or sad.

RT and the local NPR affiliate are my only sources of local news. Everything else involves cross-checking Internet news affiliates.

If you have spent the past four years calling the president a terrorist, Marxist, market destroying Socialist, a communist, created death panels, wasn’t born in America, hates the flag and also America, loathes our men and women in uniform, destroys the Constitution or any form of racial slur, don’t lecture me about disrespect

  35. Pirengle | January 9, 2013 at 10:18 pm

So I dug this up from the Richmond Times-Dispatch.

    http://www.timesdispatch.com/news/state-regional/judge-agrees-with-cuccinelli-in-stormwater-case

U.S. District Judge Liam O’Grady in Alexandria ruled late Thursday in favor of the Virginia Department of Transportation and the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, which challenged the EPA’s restrictions on the flow of stormwater into Accotink Creek. The EPA sought to restrict the flow of stormwater into the creek to deal with sediment.

Naturally, dealing with sediment translates into HURKA DURKA EPA THINKS WATER POLLUTES LOLZ.

This is the Washington Post from July:

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/virginia-politics/post/fairfax-county-vdot-sue-epa-over-accotink-creek-watershed-regulations

The lawsuit — which was filed by the county and by Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli’s (R) office in federal court in Alexandria on behalf of the Virginia Department of Transportation — says the federal agency has gone too far by requiring the county to control the flow of water itself as a way of managing sediment discharges.

If the county were to comply with the EPA, the financial impact on homeowners and property owners would also be significant, county officials said. Building any new impervious surface, for example, including a home addition or new residential development, would require taking steps to retain all storm water runoff from the expanded area.

So it sounds to me like Fairfax County wasn’t moving fast enough on a solution for the stormwater sediment, the EPA wanted results and upped the stakes.

  36. Suzie | January 9, 2013 at 10:19 pm

God bless true Catholic and patriot Paul Ryan. He’s sponsoring legislation that will hopefully bring us out of the stone age on abortion by granting personhood to all from the moment of fertilization.

This legislation is as significant as the demise of the 3/5 rule.

  37. Suzie | January 9, 2013 at 10:22 pm

Notice how it’s always conservatives who sponsor the landmark bills – the ones about which people 100 years hence will say “Can you believe people had really been such neanderthals?”

  38. J.M. White | January 9, 2013 at 10:34 pm

“…blog host allies to turn over IP addresses”?

http://bit.ly/TM1Fal – because Suzie’s comments should have their own theme music.

Hilarious! Apparently this whole internet thing is as mysterious as the origin of Christianity is to Suzie. Yeah, I’m sure “the regime” will be calling up every podunk.com’s blog boys for the names of dissidents.

Or… they could just go through the ISP hubs and get all the information they need from there. Or… they could go through the main hub that pretty much routes all internet traffic in the U.S. and get it there.

Oh wait! They already do that, hence it all being routed through a main hub in the first place. Oh my! It seems that they also can get your IP address at any time they wish, with or without a warrant, with a matter of a few keystrokes. It’s been a brave new world since 9-11.

That’s right, Suzie: with the language that you’ve used on this site regarding the president, you may have already been flagged on a watchlist. Every single comment you make here is likely being recorded word-for-word and stored in your “file”. Don’t worry, though. I’m sure they’re just assimilating information for use in your reeducation program.

    Let’s review:

    - they won’t be contacting Dan for information on his users because they can get all the info they need from the ISPs themselves (and roanoke.com is searchable, but comprehending the significance of that requires more education than I’m patient enough to give to you right now). They’d only need Dan’s cooperation in reference to a threat made against roanoke.com or Dan’s Blog directly.
    - they don’t need permission, cooperation or even complicity to get whatever info they want about you.
    - when this “regime entrenchment” occurs, you’ve already screwed yourself so badly on this blog alone that you might want to consider checking out the ex-pat scene in Zimbabwe.

Citizen #455-SQ-332: please remove your humorously over-sized shoes, return to your station and resume normal functions. Thank you.

That’s what they said the 13th Amendment that rendered the 3/5 Compromise moot. What is it about liberals who have tried throughout history to deny personhood to human beings?

  48. VVArlock | January 10, 2013 at 9:45 am

Personhood dies without making it out of committee. Even LA rejected it. Just more Catholic Church trying to force their will on the world. Must be habit, they did it for so long they think they still can.

  49. gdad | January 10, 2013 at 11:03 am

Wow, suzie doesn’t even realize that liberals and progressives wanted to end slavery.

good effort on the post. i guess there’s at least a couple of ways to view the case…

  53. Pirengle | January 10, 2013 at 5:05 pm

Suzie: That’s what they said the 13th Amendment that rendered the 3/5 Compromise moot.

You’re missing a word in there somewhere. And for some reason you’re conflating the 13th Amendment (ending slavery) with the Three-Fifths Compromise (enacted in 1787 to count the slave population as “worth” 3/5 of the free population, aimed at the Southern states whose government representatives didn’t want slaves to count as population for tax purposes but DID want slaves to count as population for the House of Representatives districting) for no reason I can tell.

Someone should write one of these for the blog: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mad_libs

  54. Dave Hicks | January 10, 2013 at 7:56 pm

    Re: What bugs Suzie ….”

    Maybe, Ron.

However, I suspect that what bugs Suzie is she knows that she will reminded of her multiple absolute certain, unqualified ” WoooHOOOO! …”, “LMAO”, “Romney is going to win by a landslide…”, etc, etc, etc predictions plus the It’s time for you know who to eat a lot of crow thread [ http://tinyurl.com/awmwyft ] — every time she claims the she has never been wrong.

IMHO, what bugs Suzie is that now even she/he knows that he/she has absolutely no credibility on the blog.

  55. Ron May | January 10, 2013 at 8:38 pm

That may be Dave Hicks. However, she’s only part of the problem.

  56. Suzie | January 12, 2013 at 8:39 am

    Dave Hicks,
My prediction on Romney’s win was based on a fair election. It didn’t take into account the rampant cheating that went in where hundreds of districts gave obama 99% or more of the vote, a figure that is statistically impossible. In a fair election, Romney wins handily I like Iand many others predicted.

  57. Suzie | January 12, 2013 at 8:41 am

And for some reason you’re conflating the 13th Amendment (ending slavery) with the Three-Fifths Compromise

I already addressed that, Pirengle. The 13 Amendment effectively ended the 3/5 compromise.
