What’s to miss?

If he wasn’t a decision maker, “I don’t know the answer to that question” is far better than winging it without the facts.

He then gives a very rational opinion / speculation of what might have been the drivers for the decision.

My impression of Goodlatte is that he probably gets “stumped” just trying to find his way to the bathroom in the morning.

Gun shows, flea markets that sell guns, ranges, firearm classes, Lobby Day in Richmond, and lots of other places have more guns in one place than most people ever see in their lifetimes are the least violent places I have ever been. You pulled that made-up statement right out of your arse.

Were you just so anxious to think we’re hypocrites that you didn’t read my post? In fairness to Goodlatte, he didn’t know, but he does now and once the ignorance is cured, he is much more accountable. He cetainly should demand a different venue next time. Same for Cantor. Same for all of them.

I do agree that Rep. Goodlatte’s answers were reasonable, but not in keeping with a mantra driven by the NRA that Goodlatte will most probably repeat in the near future – that being more guns equals more safety.

However, JP’s post quite effectively skewers the NRA mantra with common sense. Great post, JP.

The point was not that he didn’t know the answer. The point was that his attempt to think of a reason betrayed the hypocrisy and ridiculousness of the idea that more guns in a location make that place more safe. People responsible for security know that an increase in guns means an increase in the likelihood and/or severity of gun violence. That this is not self-evident is a sad commentary on many Americans’ intelligence and priorities.

Yeah I watched it a few more times. If you think this is something that reflects poorly on the Congressman, that might be a sign you shouldn’t qualify to own a gun….because it would be a deranged thought.

I still don’t get the point. He didn’t know the details of why concealed carry wasn’t allowed there and was honest about it then gave a reasonable best guess. If Bob was heading up security for the event then not knowing would be noteworthy. Nothing out of the ordinary here.
