Dan I’m quite sure my last post started a backlash of somekind..just can’t be helped I guess. I doubt I’ll post again anytime soon but I do like some of the hometown stuff you do. So I’ll keep up some. I’ve got to go to bed as I work out of town, my son the rat will break out this week, and my mother is in the last stages of alzheimer’s. I’m quite busy with other stuff and this has held me up tonight. I hope and wish that everyone would learn to dissagre without hurtful personal comments. Passionate dialogue is ok, but everyone needs to practice civility.

Dan I spent about 2 minutes and came up with 2 names. You only asked for one. You really think that in the whole US there were only 4 cases of voter fraud. So a voter ID with a picture hurts the democrats how? Do minorities not take a good picture? When they sign up to vote the camera will steal their soul? Or are we to just argue over this so both sides can keep doing what they want. When I get a drivers license I have to get a photo made. People in Iraq were proud to show there purple fingers. Democrats aren’t proud to have a card that says they can vote? I show my voter ID every time I vote. The machines should be secured, cards should be issued. Voting to me should be like activating nukes on a sub…that secure.

The difference is this. Sandy Hook: 26, Chicago: 532 which do we hear about? Why? Assault Rifle is what exactly. New York passed a law so fast that the police are in violation of it. How nice. But they did it boy, look how fast they reacted. Everytime something happens, our elected leaders know just how to fix it. If we elect them then this will be solved. Yet nothing ever gets fixed because if it did then what would we need them for. Immigation has been a problem for how long? Funny how that never gets fixed. Voter fraud, doesn’t it seem odd that only one party commits all the attrocities while the other has a halo. Which one depends on which side your on. There is an old buisness model called “rule by confusion”. Everyone seems to be ready for battle all the time with vitriolic statments. Or is it just me. You know it seems pointless to have a topic in which each side blames the other instead of coming up with a fix. Like how could we fix voter fraud? Or do we not want to? Do we just want to digress into belittling comments toward each other. Since we can’t actually look at the facts and accept both sides have a point. How can we expect our leaders to be any better.

GO84, your point is well-taken. The two people you named indeed were accused of voter fraud, and it appears from what I’ve read that they committed it, too.

There’s a bigger issue here, and I hope you recognize that. It’s that voter fraud is rare. Nearly 136 million votes were cast in the last presidential election. Here on this board, we’re talking about four different people charged with voter fraud, 2 Democrats and 2 Republicans. (The alleged fraud by one of the Democrats, Wendy Rosen, occurred in 2006 and 2008).

As I’m sure you recognize, this is bizarrely out of whack with copious amounts of attention conservatives, and conservatives alone, brought to the issue in 2011 and 2012. In multiple states, they enacted so-called “voter-fraud reforms.” Uniformly, these were proposed by Republican lawmakers. Uniformly, they sought to cure a problem that nobody could demonstrate existed in any way that was at all significant. And uniformly, a byproduct of these so-called “reforms” was that they tended to discourage voting by groups that favored Democrats.

In the spirit of honesty and sanctimony that you demonstrated above, I would expect you to acknowledge that this is true.

It was an attempt to game the system and stack the deck in the Republicans’ favor. It failed because Democrats fought back in the courts, and in the court of public opinion. I’d like to be able to say it backfired but there’s no evidence of that. Mitt Romney’s “47 percent” line probably energized more Democratic voters than the games Republicans played, and in some cases tried to play, to discourage voting by minorities, students and the elderly.

I’m not following you go84. What difference does it make if murders occur at Sandy Hook or Chicago? They’re all gun deaths. Chicago doesn’t exist in a vacuum. I could drive a van full of weapons into that city and unless that city has some sort of weapons interdiction program on every street leading into it, which they don’t, I’m getting in with my cargo easily. Illinois gun laws are restrictive but Indiana’s (which borders Chicago BTW) are not and neither are Wisconsin’s or Iowa’s. And with the number of firearms in this country approaching 300 million there is certainly no shortage of weapons to be had. The gun control laws in this country are a joke IMHO. One state allows concealed carry, the other does not, one has a 2 day waiting period the other not, some require a permit or registration or one of the other and other states not, and on and on. The solution to the patchwork laws we have is a federal system of registration and permitting along with a strictly enforced ban on all assault rifles.

I know this is off topic from the above thread but I am just responding to what go84 brought up.

You know it’s sad to see that nothing can change your mind or soften your heart. Wendy Rosen dropped out of the race IN 2012 because she was caught voting in 2 different elections in 2 different locations. Oops I forget that doesn’t count. I gave you another name in NC, oops I forgot you can’t see that one either. You rant about “the Kock brothers”, I can rant about “George Soros”. Big woop. You people are up in arms about Sandy Hook. Is it because you only see a white fruitloop kill white children. Take a look at the death toll in Chicago. They seem to have a Sandy Hook about every month. Why don’t I hear about that. Is it because your beloved gun laws are all in place there? Is it because they are black on black crimes? Is it because it is mostly gang related? Democrats have run the place for years. What about Detroit. I seem to remember bailing out the auto industry. Why are they about to go bankrupt? Why are they finding bodies as if they have a serial killer? I’ve voted for Virgil Goode, Dick Cranwell, and Doug Wilder to name a few. Never regreted it. I’ve voted both parties. I don’t agree with everything that they do so don’t think that I’m republican either. I’m not blinded as some of you on here are. I look at the blogs every now and then, but I don’t live on here. I can only figure from the amount of time several of you spend on here that you don’t have much of a life. Some of you need to get outside smell the fresh air. You’re getting yourselves worked up into a frenzy feeding off of one another. You use belittling names as if it improves your point. Bill Maher calls women like Palin the most awful foul names, degrades her children. But that’s ok because she doesn’t agree with your side. So are you trying to mimick this style? I gave you 2 references, you gave me one that actuall says “takingpoints” in the url. Well you got me there. You said that I used a “Crackpot” blog. Does that word make you feel better. I’m sad that you are so angry. If anyone dares to give you something to look at, that disagrees with your point of view, you immediately dismiss it. What a loyal minion. Well I was going to see if something this simple was able to be discussed rationally. It is as I suspected, this is just an angry shouting match between a dozen or so people who hate each other so much that they wouldn’t help each other if life or limb depended on it. How Sad.

If the GOTP could prove that such fraud and abuse of the election process had happened, they would have. The Koch brothers are not averse to wasting their money.
