I was only partially kidding. I do not expect the government to come for my guns. Not really.

Once I get out of law school and have some disposable income it is my intention to start collecting my Zombie Apocalypse kit.
While I probably will not be allowed to purchase a TOW system, and a 5 inch gun is probably too large to be useful I definitely plan on getting something stronger than just another 5.56.

I was reading a fb post this week that mentioned the gun owners of Wisconsin taking to the woods to deer hunt. The post claimed 700,000 hunters in WI and 750,000 in PA. That is more than the entire US Army can field and about half of our total military force (including civvies in both numbers).
While I agree that a Red Dawn type fight is silly (hunters don’t typically own tanks), some things are beyond the pale and will encounter real resistance.

VT Hokie, I think you do “know who it is that Alex Jones thinks has his back”, how long do we go in any conversation involving any aspect of gun control before someone spouts how their guns are “needed” for when the government comes for….whatever the hell it is the government is coming for? It almost never fails to be touted as a reason for an armed populace aka militia. I do not know for certain that his backers are not the “majority of gun owners”. The hysteria over a mass shooting of children sending gun nuts to the store and gun shows is a pretty solid indictment in my eyes.

Granted Jones is very much like having “Rush Limbaugh or Glen Beck”, they certainly have devoted fans no matter what they say too.

No argument that Morgan got what he wanted, but did Jones?

I reckon he spends a lot of time anguishing over the fact that HE’S PAYING REAL ESTATE TAXES TO PAY FOR ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS WHEN HE HAS NO CHILDREN IN THEM . . . UNFAIR! UNFAIR! UNFAIR!

(In other words, Kristen, a classroom full of 6-year-olds has NEGATIVE value to BobH. He got his education, financed by real estate taxes. But now that he’s paying them, and has no elementary-school-age kids, he considers them an outrage. Especially with all the UNION teachers here in the commonwealth.)

Chuck, thanks for answering my question. I too do not think that closing the gun show loophole, but it can be part of a comprehensive solution to the unacceptable level of violence we are now experiencing. I agree with Sandi, we just can’t refuse to do anything, that would simply be giving up and making us all targets just waiting for our number to come up. However, if parents in any specific community feel the need for armed guards to give them peace of mind, then allow for some way to pay for the guards. Maybe a tax on guns and ammo. This does not have to be a national solution, but local.

Chuck, I just saw your response above and thank you for a reasonable answer.
I agree on the “community based” comment, but I think that’s one direction the mental health community has gone into in an effort to contain costs. There are families out there with adolescents they can’t handle, begging for intervention and even admission into in-patient facilities and can’t get it.

So tell us…How many premium dollars – Yes, even YOUR precious dollars – is worth saving a classroom full of children. Within, say…$50K. Let’s hear it.
