No surprise that JW uses a gun reference, that's all he can think about. But the truth is, I stayed on topic. I continued the very legitimate example of JW's self-serving hypocrisy, and I'll keep doing so, because when his ammo isn't bullets, he's as well equipped to persuade others as any gummint hatin' militia sympathizer with a gun obsession can be.

"...ugly authoritarian leadership. Oh well… their rights to throw away. I’ll never live there".
comment by John Wilburn

There are some steps we can take to lessen the power of "elites" right now. For instance, we can eliminate the authoritarian rules that require broker and agent licenses to sell real estate for others. Why would people rail against elites and government rules but then support that example, unless they are selective according to their own selfish interests?

So those who love liberty should support steps to lessen, and eventually end, real estate license requirements. Broker's licenses don't protect people, people protect people. When anyone can broker real estate for anyone else, we'll have a safer real estate marketplace.

And if the National Association of Realtors start claiming that the government wants to take everyone's broker licenses away, shouldn't we believe them at face value? After all, you can't spell NAR without N-R-A.

John W - The part about "Existing weapons would be grandfathered in, but their ownership could not be transferred" clause is not directed at your father's old gun.

The section does refer to "antique" guns which is any magazine or gun manufactured "more than 50 years ago"....and if you have an old rifle passed down from your father it is exempt - according to the new NY gun laws- from the prohibition against transfer, but if the gun qualifies as an assault weapon it must be registered.

As far as selling guns or buying - in NY a background check will be required by either a dealer or private seller. Don't like NY rules? Well you can sell your gun in another state other than NY [provided you follow the laws of each state and any federal laws].

Problem solved, no?

Hillary:

"What about these regulations, do you not agree with?"

Virtually all of it....

"The maximum capacity of an ammunition magazine would be reduced from 10 rounds to seven, and a current exemption for clips manufactured before 1994 will end."

That number of 7 is to try to force people to carry revolvers as to not only put them at a disadvantage against criminals who will definitely still keep their semi-autos. Who cares about people without the finger strength to manipulate a heavy revolver trigger.... they don't matter. Then again, they make sure that next to no one can get a permit to carry anyway.

"current exemption for clips manufactured before 1994 will end.

"Private sales of firearms, which now proceed unfettered, would require a background check through a licensed dealer, putting those transactions in line with current purchasing requirements for rifles and shotguns."

Mandatory background checks are registration. Registration is the first step toward confiscation.

"The new regulations would adjust the definition of a banned assault rifle so that any single characteristic — such as a telescoping stock, flash suppressor, bayonet attachment or pistol grip — on a semiautomatic rifle would render it illegal. Existing weapons would be grandfathered in, but their ownership could not be transferred."

One day I will likely inherit my father's 1842 Springfield and its original bayonet. New Yorkers will have those family heirlooms confiscated by the government. That is horrible. That single test thing is positively ridiculous and merely continues in same track as the first stupid scary-looking gun ban.

"And BTW, Cuomo had said he feared an “unprecedented” rush to buy assault weapons if he waited three days for a legislative vote. NY Governors often use the “message of necessity” which had been created for emergencies"

The crown is alive and well..... Wake up people.

John W. - there are many parts of the NY law that I agree with, notwithstanding your position that it was "rammed" through:

What I like:
The maximum capacity of an ammunition magazine would be reduced from 10 rounds to seven, and a current exemption for clips manufactured before 1994 will end.

Private sales of firearms, which now proceed unfettered, would require a background check through a licensed dealer, putting those transactions in line with current purchasing requirements for rifles and shotguns.

The new regulations would adjust the definition of a banned assault rifle so that any single characteristic — such as a telescoping stock, flash suppressor, bayonet attachment or pistol grip — on a semiautomatic rifle would render it illegal. Existing weapons would be grandfathered in, but their ownership could not be transferred.

And courtesy of the republicans in the NY senate, the bill also stiffens penalties for people who use guns criminally - the murder of a first responder will become a felony punishable by life in prison without parole.

What about these regulations, do you not agree with? I can tell you I believe the mental health component will simply not be enforceable, but there are still plenty to like about the bill, IMO.

And BTW, Cuomo had said he feared an "unprecedented" rush to buy assault weapons if he waited three days for a legislative vote. NY Governors often use the "message of necessity" which had been created for emergencies - to get a deal that has been negotiated between both parties made into law before lobbyists [NRA for example] can begin to chip away at the provisions.

JW, from the link YOU provided, here's the portion of the act defining the behavior that is proscribed.

‘‘(1) knowingly enters or remains in any restricted building
or grounds without lawful authority to do so;
‘‘(2) knowingly, and with intent to impede or disrupt the
orderly conduct of Government business or official functions,
engages in disorderly or disruptive conduct in, or within such
proximity to, any restricted building or grounds when, or so
that, such conduct, in fact, impedes or disrupts the orderly
conduct of Government business or official functions;
‘‘(3) knowingly, and with the intent to impede or disrupt
the orderly conduct of Government business or official functions,
obstructs or impedes ingress or egress to or from any restricted
building or grounds; or
‘‘(4) knowingly engages in any act of physical violence
against any person or property in any restricted building or
grounds; or attempts or conspires to do so
BUT, the VCDL's VA-ALERT that YOU copied said it gives "(the Secret Service) new powers to declare the area around the President or Vice President a free speech zone"

Now YOU tell us where the act mentions speech. Unlawful entry, disruptive conduct, obstruction of egress, and physical violence are the four specified areas that it addresses.

I'm no fan of Bush/Cheney free speech zones, and also wish such legislation as the above was never needed. But the idea is not now being employed for Owellian free speech suppression as Bush/Cheney used it; proscribed entry zones are used by the Secret Service in the Obama administration for security of the first black president, during a time when anti-government gun nuts are rampant.

Yet, the VCDL's VA-ALERT that you copied said it gives "(the Secret Service) new powers to declare the area around the President or Vice President a free speech zone"

YOU tell us where the act mentions speech. Not activity broadly construed as speech in theory, like corporate donations to politicians, but actual vocalized speech, e.g. yelling "Hey Biden, my gun loves me".

If you can't, we'll all know that the VCDL's VA-ALERT used a big fat polemical lie, and we'll also know that you refuse to admit it, making ownership of the lie extend to you, John Wilburn.
