Roanoke Tea Party anti-ICLEI effort FOILED again! UPDATED

Update: Read The Roanoke Tea Party’s report on this loss, (and bonus: see the nifty “WANTED for impersonating a congressional conservative” posters they’ve designed to slam Rep. Bob Goodlatte, R-Roanoke County).

The House Rules Committee this evening tabled Del. Ben Cline’s bill that would have forced any Virginia localities that are members of the International Council for Local Environmental Initiative to drop their memberships.

The action happened on a voice vote. It likely means it’s dead for this year. It might have been folded into another bill, though. I’m checking, and if that’s the case I’ll update this post.

Here’s the report from the Virginia General Assembly Legislative Information System, and Thursday’s column on the bill.

Maybe they’re tired of being the butt of jokes by Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert.

IDK Debbie, that would require a self and national interest awareness I am not sure they possess.

Not hard to find more stupid and unconstitutional stuff from Repubs. In this case, an La. right winger says what we know they’re all thinking: When I voted for public funding of religious school, I didn’t mean anything other than Christian schools.

Sandi, I am a happily married man, but I think I love you. Keep it up.

Both sides of this argument bother me. I hate to see the TP focused on a distraction like this. It really needs to stay focused the out of control Government spending and growth that made them so popular. I also hate to see people portray them as nut jobs because of this agenda 21 thing which may or may not be a real issue. time will tell. We really need to quit trying to delegitimize each other and figure out how to fix this economy. Too many distractions out there on both sides. Meanwhile we’re inching closer to economic meltdown each day. Who’s going to bail us out?

Nobody has to portray them as anything. They do it all by themselves. Read the paranoia on the Roanoke Tea Party website.

Zombie invasions may or may not become real issues too, but anyone spending a lot of time and effort preparing for them now would generally be considered nuts. The baggers label themselves with this UN nonsense.

  8. Still Learning | February 1, 2013 at 9:27 am

Eddie, watch the end of a Roanoke County Board meeting when the Teapootyers parade to the podium with their paranoia….every frikken meeting the same folks with the same twisted logic. Like Wayne said, they portray themselves as what they are on a fairly regular basis.

  9. gdad | February 1, 2013 at 9:39 am

Don’t laugh, Kristen, AMC has a mulit-part documentary about a zombie invasion. The next installment shows Feb. 10.

  10. Kristen | February 1, 2013 at 11:33 am

gdad, I read a hardware store had a second of the floor dedicated to stuff you need to have on hand in the event of Zombie invasion. Pretty funny. I am a big Walking Dead fan. :)

  11. Paul | February 1, 2013 at 11:38 am

Eddie hit the nail on the head. So much is wasted spending taxpayer money on things like agenda 21, overseas wars, and frivously giving away foreign aid and domestic welfare as well as corporate welfare to crony businesses and banks. The spending has to stop for things to even start getting better.

Now that the GA has disposed of Cline’s insane bill, the people of his district should get a clue and dispose of his services in this fall’s election. The radicalism of this and many of his and his radical friends proposals are the reason this state is being held back from resolving its transportation, education, mental health, and other heaslth care issues.

  13. gdad | February 1, 2013 at 11:32 pm

We’re also Walking Dead fans, Kristen.

  14. pammala | February 2, 2013 at 4:34 am

obviously the left doesnt understand the un, they should be kicked out of this country first and foremost and even if you guys dont understand the real implications, dont make yourself look even more ignorant by posting things of which you have no info,,lol…ahh once AGAIN, the party of ignorance blasts what they cannot understand…..

  15. applewood | February 2, 2013 at 9:53 am

#6…“read the paranoia“ ???? The paranoia is the continued whining ABOUT the Tea Party, of which #6 is guilty…Waynie. Casey`s paranoia turns into this sites drivel, followed by the remining sheeple and thier paranoia. Gun paranoia. Rush paranoia. Cuccinelli paranoia. McDonnell paranoia. Palin paranoia. Whew..I`ve got to stop here…I could go on all day.

  16. Debbie | February 2, 2013 at 10:09 am

pammala, I’m sure you’ll love the micro-apartment that the UN marches you off to. I don’t know if the ones around here will be as nice as the ones to be built in New York, but we’ll hope so.

#14 Ignorance, thy name is pammala.

  18. Richard J Beason | February 2, 2013 at 10:16 am

    11. Paul, while I sympathize with your lament on some of the spending, I say that our spending overseas is some of the best spending we can do. Buying good behavior has proven time and again much cheaper in dollars and in human life than any other method we have tried. The neo-cons tried the power bit and it blew up in their faces. It simply does not work as those of us old enough realized from Korea and Vietnam.

Third World Nations trying to support their citizens have to deal with internal violence due to the destitution of their citizenship. Today’s worldwide mass communication provides even greater knowledge of their situation and that many of us enjoy tremendously better lives.

We cannot control these Nations with power, it simply is not possible, nor can we ignore their situation as it is not only inhuman, but also, it spreads rapidly as seen with Al Qaeda. Soft power remains the only viable approach as it not only appeases the violence, it also helps the Nations economically and helps us economically by opening new markets. Truly a win/win situation for the USA.

  19. applewood | February 2, 2013 at 10:17 am

#16…. The UN will `march` not a soul(at least those of us with firearms).

  20. pammala | February 2, 2013 at 10:22 am

bloomberg is an idiot and you as well if you believe that, besides who the hell wants to live in anything like anything in ny…honey you need to get out more..ny is nothing anymore…not paranoia applecheeks, its just that bammy is the MOST HATED president ever and we arent going to do what he wants..lol

  21. applewood | February 2, 2013 at 10:22 am

#17…Yeah, Beason..it calms the violent. That approach really seems to be working great with Al-Queda. They are spreading like wildfire. Your Messiah, despite trying to lie to the people and claim HE had destoyed them, are alive and well, and would love nothing more than to KILL us each and all. Thats what they live for. Ever heard of Daniel Pearl ? Ask that totally innocent man what he thinks about it. Oh, Thats right…you can`t.

  22. Debbie | February 2, 2013 at 10:40 am

ahh once AGAIN, the person of ignorance blasts what they cannot understand….. Fixed it for you, Pammala.

  23. Richard J Beason | February 2, 2013 at 10:45 am

Treacherously Ersatz Antagonistic Pathetically Asinine Redneck Themed Yearnings

  24. Debbie | February 2, 2013 at 11:05 am

“The UN will `march` not a soul” Finally applewood, something I can agree on with you.

  25. Debbie | February 2, 2013 at 11:07 am

As much fun as you are, pammy, time for me to get off of here. I have things to do today.

  26. Jason Perdue | February 2, 2013 at 11:17 am

    Well said, sir. +1

  27. Jason Perdue | February 2, 2013 at 11:19 am

Oops, my post at 11:17 a.m. referred to the comments by Richard J Beason — February 2, 2013 @ 10:16 am. Again, well said. +1

  28. Debbie | February 2, 2013 at 11:25 am

Change that to, Finally, something you and I can agree on, applewood. Sounds much better grammatically.

  29. Kristen | February 2, 2013 at 11:53 am

I was told years ago that the blue and green signs on our highways represented a code that would only be understandable to the UN invaders as they took over the country. This brand of nuttery has been around a long time.

pammalala and Paul, you might take note of what these pricey real estate ‘micro’ apartments are renting for. For what a 300 sq ft place in SF goes for you could have a palace in Roanoke. What you’re seeing is the free market at work being molded by the forces of supply and demand, nothing more.

  30. pammala | February 2, 2013 at 12:00 pm

    didnt need fixing debbiedoo

  31. gdad | February 2, 2013 at 1:01 pm

applewood, show us where Obama (who nobody here considers a messiah, another lie by people like you) ever claimed to have totally destroyed Al-Queda.

Wait, are those crickets I hear?

  32. Sandi Saunders | February 2, 2013 at 3:37 pm

pammala, applewood, et al: I get it that you miss the irony of folks like you telling us that we are the ones who “dont understand the real implications” and that we are the ones who “make yourself look even more ignorant by posting things of which you have no info” but seriously, you should consider a stand-up routine. Your stuff is truly comical.

Your problem, even if this new world order, the UN has an Agenda 21 and they are coming for your acreage is true on some tiny level, is just too far fetched for any mind not eaten up with hate and conspiracy ideology to accept. Now I grant you that just because you are paranoid does not mean the re-educators are not coming for you, but you are spewing that bile in the wrong place for anything more than the ridicule you receive.

What “leads” people and makes movements is credibility and facts, you have none. You have wild conjecture and misinterpretation of the innocuous. Not to mention idiots and loony toons leading the parade. Or that no one forces ma & pa to sell the farm for a condo development. No one forces cities to use the space they have wisely. It is called making the smart choice and I pity you.

  33. Debbie | February 2, 2013 at 4:25 pm

Personally, I have no interest in living in a micro-apartment and absolutely no worries that I will ever be forced to. I don’t live my life in paranoid fear.

  34. Richard J Beason | February 3, 2013 at 8:07 pm

21 Applewood get a grip. You are giving your calling card to the FBI

  35. Art Hill | February 3, 2013 at 8:16 pm

What’s scary is that these tin foil hatters walk freely among us.

  36. Kristen | February 3, 2013 at 10:37 pm

Applehead, what is up with your obsession with Daniel Pearl. It’s weird.

  37. Sandi Saunders | February 3, 2013 at 11:31 pm

I’m happily married too Perch, (soon to be 33 years) but thanks!

  38. Jason Perdue | February 4, 2013 at 5:52 am

    Comment by Kristen — February 2, 2013 @ 11:53 am

Yes, a weapon is at hand to combat the imminent UN takeover! applewood, all you need is a mechanism by which you can render UN troops blue-green color blind, and victory over tyranny will be yours! Perhaps you and pammala can round up all those creationist scientists to retro fit your ARs with a color blindness inducing ray emitter that can be secretly disseminated to TP troops via Cracker Jacks!

  39. Other John | February 4, 2013 at 8:33 am

I was told years ago that the blue and green signs on our highways represented a code that would only be understandable to the UN invaders as they took over the country. This brand of nuttery has been around a long time.

Wow, seriously? Green=guide signs, blue=service/info signs.

Nothing nefarious about it, it’s simply the standardized code in the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices, Table 2A-5 (Page 33) of the 2009 edition. Can you imagine driving on an interstate if every state or local government had their own way of signing stuff? It would be a freaking mess.

But, I guess it does go to highlight the utterly absurd crap that some people believe. It used to be that way, actually…until the first national manual was created in 1927, with the first MUTCD being published in 1932. Until then, states and local governments did their own thing, having vastly different standards for things like sign sizes/shapes/colors, traffic signals, highway lane markings, etc.
