Thank you for your patience . . .
If you’re feeling a bit of frustration with this blog or some others today, join the club.
We’re in the process of converting from the “old” roanoke.com to the new “beta” version, which still has plenty of kinks to work out.
Among other things, you may have noticed that there are no paragraph breaks, all (or most) photos are at the top of posts (rather than on the left) and the the “submit” button on comments doesn’t work.
Hang in there, readers. We’ll get things straightened out.

Hi folks. My name is Mari, I’m one of the technical folks over here. I’m testing. So… 1.2.3. Testing.
Thanks
Mari, welcome to the blog!
Thanks for your hard work Mari!
Generally I like it. However, when I try to open threads not started today all I can see are comments added today. The earlier comments have vanished.
Ron, in some cases, that might not be the worst thing.
I’m getting the same issue Ron @ 5:20pm Not seeing all the comments.
Kristen, I see yours! Ha!
I know Kristen, but I had been working on a response to some nearly all day and now it is just disappointing that I can’t post it properly.
I’m having trouble with compatibility with my android phone and finding the comments more difficult to read snd/or enlarge the type to fit the phone screen.
The “« Previous” & “Next »” buttons don’t work in Mozilla Firfox
I was about to post exactly what Dave Hicks posted, except I’m using explorer. There’s no way to navigate around this blog.
RonMay, doesn’t the perfect response always come to you in the middle of the night?
Whatever changes you made during the day resolved the problem with my android phone.
Kristen,
Yes, and I always forget it by the time I wake back up in the morning.
The previous comments were showing up earlier today and now they are not in Chrome either… I am sure the techs like Mari are working hard on all the glitches though, so I will be patient.
I like the new look, once it got sorted out. Pretty clean look with Firefox on a linux machine. Some comments where missing from old threads, but I would be surprised to see that old stuff in the new format.
I’d like to have the list of the ten most recent posts back if possible, but all in all, things look pretty smooth. It was a wreck before I left for work this morning, but this isn’t exactly something that ever goes flawlessly.

I’ve looked at the page in both Firefox and IE and but for a few minor things, they’re all good. The only complaints I have currently are the missing paragraph breaks (I just use the old BBS workaround), the aforementioned Recent Posts linkbox and that the blog is slow to load.
Also noted that the RSS feeds for individual threads seems to be missing.
Please restore it.
Dan, I hope that folks using Firefox will be able to see earlier comments once a thread goers past 50 posts. I can’t right now, and I sure as heck ain’t going back to Explorer.

Gdad the problem is the same in Explorer and not seeing all the previous comments on a thread is indeed a serious glitch that I hope will be corrected.
Everyone,
I’m peppering Mari with emails about issues as they arise, and also I’m encouraging her to read this thread. BUT, the proper place to lodge issues you’re having as a result of the “new” roanoke.com is the feedback tab on the right of the page (when it’s working. It appears not be tonight.) Just fyi
i put in feedback though it came thru as anonymous…
I like that it says “Previous” and “Next” now, instead of the blog headlines, because that looked clunky, but sadly Previous and next do not work.
There is a thread further down that shows that it has 51 comments, but when you actually click it, there is only one single comment.
I don’t really like what I see so far, this rollout was poorly concieved…should have waited until all these bugs and glitches got worked out.
If the purpose of the new format is to discourage iPhone and iPod Touch users from reading and commenting, it’s working. Even before this beta rollout, for quite awhile, even when I begin on the mobile site, the format switches over to the full site when I click on Dan’s blog’s thumbnail. Also, using the new ‘feedback’ tab is very cumbersome on an iPhone/iPod Touch.
Contrasuzie…for whatever reason, all of the blogs that used to have a mobile-friendly version available had that get turned off some weeks ago. I’ve largely quit using my phone to access the blogs because it’s about as user-unfriendly as possible. And really, until the full web version gets these problems fixed, I’m much less inclined to bother.
It is kinda hard to know what to complain about as we have no clue what is just a glitch they are working on and what is going to be the new format/set-up. Let us know when they tell you they think they have it right and then I will complain.

I like many of the changes I see, especially the fix for the post numbers/avatar alignment and it is a neater looking page now.
Are those “previous” and “next” buttons going to go live? Because at this point, my biggest issue is trying to figure out how to get from thread to thread. The list of 10 most recents was far superior to just “previous” and “next”, because if I want to get to a thread 4 or 5 threads away, I’ll have to travel through each one to get there.
