Ladies,
He stated that he was in a state of sadness and grief. It’s obvious that he was on a rant. Whether his grief is real or percieved it’s real to him. Since he stated it, I take him at his word and read the letter with that in mind. I don’t have any problem with y’all disagreeing with his rant or simply dismissing it as a rant. However, y’all chose to disparage this man personally simply because you didn’t agree with him. So when I read your post, it sounds like you don’t really have an argument and resort back to calling him names and dismissing his writing style.

His address is stated Sandy Hook. He may be reactionary, but I would argue since the media swarmed the area he lives in, he is not in the same boat as the rest of us.

GO84, he professed that it did not impact him personally. I would not have commented at all if it had. Other than being a resident of Newtown and being in the same reactionary boat as the rest of the nation, his comments are not about grief at all IMO.

GO84, in his first sentence he points out that he didn’t lose anyone, friend or family, in the shooting. He’s not a victim of anything. Then he launches into a diatribe about gun control and winds up with a bunch of anti-choice and anti-Obama boilerplate.

There’s no “grief” here, just demagoguery, and a guy who wants to be “left alone” doesn’t write, sign, and send letters to the editor, president and other elected officials and media.

Sandi & Kristen,
I read the letter a couple times. I hear the mans pain in his words though I don’t know his grief. I’m sure there are other victims that feel opposite of what he wrote. I’m glad Dan posted the letter, but let the man have his grief. He may feel differently later or maybe the same. We can discuss the issue of what happened, but I think we should leave any personal comments about him or others out of it. People say things in their grief that need to be left alone and to themselves. Personally, calling this man an “idiot” and “malevlent” and also refering to his heartfelt words as unintelligible show dissrespect and a degree of callousness. We all experience grief and I would hope you both would expect latitude in your comments during grief.

Duffy’s letter is almost unintelligible and doesn’t offer one original thought. Heck, Herb writes better letters to the RT all the time.
