‘One of your best, in my opinion’
Your daily Letter to the Columnist — March 11, 2013
Note: The following is from Richard Wells, a downtown landlord who’s also publisher of The Roanoker and other magazines.
Dear Dan,
After telling and re-telling the story you so eloquently revealed in last Sunday’s paper, I just had to write. That was one of your best, in my opinion.
It made me think about storytelling and your craft as a columnist.
The way you saved the nail in the coffin until the very end was beautiful. Until that moment, the reader was not really sure what was going on in that house. In fact midway through the telling you share with us that the tenant has told you some pretty wild stories about the way this family lived. Stories you just can’t share with your readers . . .
Anyway, Dan I want to compliment you on your writing and the stories you find. It’s good writing and good reading. Thanks.
I think I’ll keep my subscription another year. Can you order an edition that comes without the editorial page?
Best wishes,
Richard

You read wells’ mag. and he constantly rags the RT, so I guess you take a compliment anyway you can get it.
Richard Wells
You always have the option of not reading the editorial page. That’s what I do when I read your rag of a magazine.
I think he is on to something, I would like an edition that does not include the right wingers and he would like one without the left.
I see a revenue stream for the RT! You should also be charging some nominal fee for the online interaction we all enjoy for free. Even the Bedford and Smith Mountain Lake papers require you to be a subscriber or buy an internet subscription. It would certainly gain revenue and get rid of the “I cancelled my subscription…” whiners.
