This preacher is facing 10 years for seducing a teenager

That’s the Rev. Jack Schaap below, in a creepy and bizarre sermon/demonstration from the pulpit of First Baptist Church in Hammond, Ind. He’s pleaded guilty to taking a 17-year-old across state lines for sex, and faces 10 years in prison when he’s sentenced March 20.

Sick, sick, sick.

    Yeah,

But whaddayagonna do? When Jesus tells you to do it, you gotta listen.

That video is pretty dang weird though…

    Dan

    Ever read Plain Heathen Mischief?

Check out the guy in the background – far left. He’s saying to himself: OMG is he seriously doing this?

“Dan, Ever read Plain Heathen Mischief?”

Not yet. I read “The Many Aspects of Mobile Home Living,” though. Loved it.

    Dan

For everyone’s info, Plain Heathen Mischief is a good story about a preacher who gets into trouble for something similar to what rev. Schaap is accused of doing.
It is set partly in Roanoke, with lots of local references. Fun read.

What is justified in the name of the man called Jesus is horrific. Why did those four men behind him not get up walk out, or forcibly stop what the crazy guy was doing?

    Quite sickening…

  7. pete | March 15, 2013 at 9:49 am

nothin like that Ole Time Religion, right, Dan?

  8. Dan Casey | March 15, 2013 at 10:01 am

And both novels are by Martin Clark of Patrick County, who sidelines as a Circuit Court judge.

He just…can’t…stop…polishing…the…shaft. I’m with Hilary…why in heck did no one get up and save this poor guy from making a freak of himself in public? Or at the very least, offered him a cigarette when he was done.

The only thing missing is the poison kool aid!!

  11. Laura | March 15, 2013 at 10:21 am

It’s even better if you watch with the sound turned off. And by “better,” I mean “dear Lord, don’t let anyone be coming up behind me while I’m watching this because they will totally get the wrong idea and then I’ll have some ‘splainin’ to do.”

Kristen “Or at the very least, offered him a cigarette when he was done.”

That was a very good and funny line!

This guy looks very practiced at this. I wonder how many times he’s rehearsed for this moment of glory.

I like how they’re all wearing matching white suit jackets with matching pocket squares. I thought at the end of the thing they would get up and do maybe a Lawrence Welk type of barber-shop-song-and-dance routine, maybe with Rev. Schaap playing the organ …

The part that really makes you sick is realizing that this man is a source of inspiration to his followers.

I am a big fan of Martin Clark. His books are a fun read.

OMG what a case. And those men looking on…… tsk tsk tsk

I notice at times like these, when a Republican/conservative/Tea Partier does something stupid, certain posters are nowhere to be found. Where do they hide upon the posting of these videotaped proofs? Where is their spin and doubletalk and justification and slams against “the regime” and moronic comparisons to Nazi Germany and sniggering misapplication of faux Christianity?

Or maybe they realize that stuff like this ain’t easy pickings for trolls like them?

  18. Debbie | March 15, 2013 at 4:44 pm

I couldn’t watch it on my work computer, and sort of wish I hadn’t watched it on my home one. Makes you wonder what his other sermons were like. What he’s doing is bizarre enough, and that they’re all dressed alike is really weird.

Did anyone read the article Dan linked to? After the minister resigned the girl and her family were told it wasn’t safe for them to return to the church. It sounds like some church members blamed her for seducing him, instead of him for seducing her.

  20. Scamuel | March 15, 2013 at 8:19 pm

It looks like he got in trouble just like Liberace did for playing the wrong organ!

  21. Al | March 15, 2013 at 9:55 pm

17…why drag the Tea Party into this? Maybe we should talk about a certain liberal who owes back taxes…
    -
“Sharpton drew a $241,732 salary and perks that included first-class or charter air travel, tax filings show. He owes the IRS $2.6 million in income tax, and nearly $900,000 in state tax.”

The democrat preacher who fathered a child out of wedlock…aka Jesse Jackson.
    -
“The Rev. Jesse Jackson acknowledged early today that he had fathered a child out of wedlock with an employee in his civil rights organization, the Rainbow/PUSH Coalition.”

And don’t forget Bill and Monica…

The Tea Party has a long way to go in order to catch up with the dems antics.

Dan, I have now watched the video. Video response time!

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P1hqfC0l5Pg

All humor aside, the last line from the article is worrisome: The victim has also decided to drop her request for restitution as her doctors still cannot estimate how much help she will need. Makes me wonder if she was bullied into dropping it or if someone’s convinced that she needs more in therapy than he could possibly pay in damages.
