What do you think his chances are?
Mitt Romney passed over Gov. Bob McDonnell as his running mate in the 2012 election, in favor of the Rep. Paul Ryan, a congressman who has a bit more stature than McDonnell in more ways than one.
Then CPAC snubbed the governor by not inviting him to their annual conference of right-wing wackos.
But none of that has dimmed speculation that McDonnell would himself make a run for the top of the GOP ticket in 2016.
Today, more fuel got poured on that fire, when McDonnell’s Opportunity Virginia PAC sent out this email:
Last night The Washington Post released a new Virginia poll.
The paper reports: ‘Gov. Robert F. McDonnell remains firmly popular with Virginia voters, getting high marks from Independents, Democrats and Republicans……overall 64 percent of all registered voters say they approve of the job McDonnell (R) is doing, up six percentage points from two Post surveys last year.’
The full poll results are incredible. In a time of deep political polarization and divide, Bob McDonnell gets high approval ratings, in a purple state, across the board.
• Independent voters approve of the Governor’s job performance by a 2-1 margin (58 percent)
• So do 59 percent of African-Americans
• 58 percent of women
• 63 percent of young voters
• The Governor gets a 54 percent job-approval rating from self-described “liberals”, 60 percent from “moderates” and 72 percent from conservatives.
• In Hampton Roads he has a 70 percent job approval rating; in Northern Virginia it’s 61 percent!
And even 54 percent of Virginia DEMOCRATS approve.
You can read more about the poll here.
The Governor has gotten results, and Virginians have seen those results in their daily lives. Unemployment in the state is down to a four-year low at 5.3 percent, lowest in the Southeast and over 2 full points below the national average! The Governor got the first major transportation funding plan passed in Virginia in 27 years…when so many said it couldn’t be done. And his reforms are improving our public schools and making college more affordable and accessible for Virginia students.
Please take a minute and pass this great poll on to your friends, family, co-workers and neighbors. And thank you for all that you do, everyday, to make this a true ‘Commonwealth of Opportunity.’ ”
Incredible, huh? What do you think, readers? Does Gov. Bob have a chance?
