Note from Dan: The comment below is by Perch, about the Tea Party. I found it illuminating because of some recent rants I read on the Roanoke Tea Party web site, in which I learned the definition of a new pejorative political label, “squish,” and discovered a new conspiracy theory that explains the whole Paula Deen affair (it involves the medieval Catholic Church) through some unique TPer lenses. BTW, they’re having a big picnic tomorrow at Garst Mill Park, and they’re serving free fried chicken and water — bring a covered dish to share!
“The Tea Party is made up of mostly white males and some of their spouses who were too self-absorbed to become politically involved in their youth and are trying to make up for it in their dotage. The Libertarian Party has represented their views all along, but their new-found “activism” makes them feel all special and righteous and unique.
Short-sighted, small-minded and totally self-interested, they are so proud to have finally discovered politics that they are giddy with it all. They aren’t so ‘anti-government’ as they are ‘anti-American,’ since they have no problem with government doing what they want done, as long as it benefits them financially, and to hell with the rest of the folks who live here, which is the majority of Americans.
That they look back on the 40′s and 50′s as halcyon days is no surprise. I really wish we could send them all back there so the rest of us could get government working properly again minus their pugnacious obstructivism.”
