Post of the Day — Aug. 1, 2013
Note from Dan: Regular J.M White posted this to the Wednesday OPEN thread. Have you ever seen a UFO? Share your experience in the comments.
Since we’ve had a little P. Rob wackiness on the blog with a touch of the paranormal to boot, I’d like to share an experience I had a few nights ago.
I have a tendency to notice things in the sky, day or night. As I’ve always been a flight fanatic, moving things in the sky almost always catch my attention. I’ve seen many things, nearly all of them explainable or dismissible, but what I saw two nights ago was beyond weird.
While out on a night cruise, I was coming out of Camp Ottari in Pulaski County and saw a bright star/planet about ten degrees above the horizon. It was the standard white/yellow color for such and around the same luminosity. I first thought it was Venus, but being as this was 1 a.m., Venus was well below the horizon at that time. As I drove, I noticed that the object was moving against the backdrop of stars in the same general direction as we were (I had two friends with me).
Someone pointed out that it had changed colors to a bright yellow just before we lost sight of it behind a ridge. I didn’t see it change colors, but I also had to keep my eye on the road, as well. After about 20 seconds, we rounded a bend and there it was, much closer and brighter. It was now a yellow-orange color and seemed to be moving in our general direction. I stopped the car, killed the engine and sat out on the window sill to listen.
The object moved almost directly over us, somewhat slowly and had changed color again to a deep orange. Even though it appeared to be less than a few thousand feet above the ground, we never heard a sound. I also couldn’t actually see a solid object – only the light itself. Now this is not that unusual or out-of-this-world or whatever; I’ve seen unexplained lights all the time, even color changing ones, and very few of them behaved outside of the known laws of physics, but I’ve never seen what happened next.
The object stopped moving, changed color to a deep, almost crimson red, split into two separate objects and began moving away from both us (in the same direction it had been traveling) and each other (in a V shape). When they had both gotten about twenty degrees above the opposite horizon and what looked like several miles apart, they suddenly zipped out of sight along their then-current trajectories. This entire event lasted around seven minutes from horizon to horizon.
I have zero natural or man-made explanations for what I saw and while the others with me had indeed been drinking that night, it was my turn to DD and we take that responsibility seriously. I hadn’t had a drop to drink in two days.
What do you think it was? I’ve seen all kinds of things that most people would call “UFO”s, but this is the first time I’ve seen a singular aerial object become two independent aerial objects, continue to fly and move away from each other. Surely, others here have seen things in the sky that they can’t explain. Would you be willing to share it here on the blog? What did you think your object was? I’d love to hear others opinions.
This kind of stuff fascinates me, especially the individual experiences. I’ve met people who’ve left their religions or changed churches because of experiences they’d had like these. I also have a friend who found religion because of his particular experience, too.
For the record, I do believe in the possibility of other intelligent life in the universe. I just happen to think that if they’re intelligent enough to be able to travel the stars at will, Earth would be a pretty boring and relatively useless stop for them, like traveling trillions of miles to watch an ant colony.
I don’t know what I saw and I don’t have the evidence to even venture a guess. I do know that it was very real and I saw it exactly as I have written it here.
Thanks for sticking out another novella. Refreshments are in the fridge. Help yourself.
