The Post of the Day — Sept. 5, 2013
Note from Dan: The regular here known as Hillary is more than a little anguished about an impending U.S. attack on Syria, and below she explains why, concluding with a line borrowed from the great American folks song, “Where Have all the Flowers Gone?” This is from the Wednesday Open thread.
“For the life of me I cannot understand how the deaths by chemical weapons of 429 children in the past weeks has precipitated outrage in the US, while an estimate of 33% of the 100,000 Syrian deaths by bullets, starvation and collapsing buildings did not move anyone in the US government to act on their behalf.
Are we so arrogant to believe we will not cause more deaths in Syria, including children? How is it we cannot afford to continue SNAP, Head Start programs, and college aid, but we can afford to lob tomahawk missile into Syria? Our Libyan “intervention” cost taxpayers about $1 billion.
How did that work out for us? It appears some children’s death are more “horrific” than others. Having spent a great deal of my career advocating for women and children, the unnecessary and cruel deaths of children should be unacceptable.
In my opinion what we are about to embark on is a fool’s mission, with the civilian population, as always, in harms way, and those we wish to eliminate, far from the destruction and chaos.
When will we ever learn?”
