Say what you want about former GOP executive committee member Don Yelton, the guy tells it like it is. And when he told The Daily Show that his state’s new voter ID law were designed to suppress Democrats’ votes, the GOP pushed him out. Watch the video, in which truth-telling became a cause for termination.
After the interview aired, Buncombe County GOP Chairman Henry Mitchell told the Asheville Citizen-Times: “Let me make it very clear, Mr. Yelton’s comments do not reflect the belief or feelings of Buncombe republicans, nor do they mirror any core principle that our party is founded upon . . . This mentality will not be supported or propagated within our party.”
But Yelton stood by his remarks: “There’s nothing I said that I would take back. So be it,” he told the newspaper. “The activity going on across the state today proves what I said is true — the Democrats are jumping on it like flies after honey.”
Of course they’re jumping on the news laws. They’re upset that their votes are being suppressed!
