This guy, Rev. Rick Joyner, is from Fort Mill, S.C., That’s the same town that at least one of those preachers who showed up at Pride in the Park the weekend before last is from.

I did not watch the video. Most talk, of “Military Coup”, is by persons that don’t understand all its implications.
Congressmen , Senators, Executive Office holders, and all members take an oath to defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic.
If the government doesn’t obey the Constitution, that is what will precipitate a “situation”.
I so love how this thing is entirely the Republicans fault.
So the republicans WANT to fund the govt besides one very controversial and divisive issue (they compromised)……the Democrats wont budge (not compromising)…and it is still the House’s fault.
All I can say to the man… Knuckle the f**k up! Let’s go chunky butt! Another Republican willing to send others to war, while sitting behind a desk, over your own one-sided political agenda.
Speaking of Republicans….
“I so love how this thing is entirely the Republicans fault.
So the republicans WANT to fund the govt besides one very controversial and divisive issue (they compromised)……the Democrats wont budge (not compromising)…and it is still the House’s fault.”
My wife and I are having the same sort of problem. She wants to pay ALL the bills that we’ve already agreed to pay. But I believe the real estate rate city council enacted in 2010 is too high. She keeps telling me we’re risking losing the house if we don’t pay that tax bill.
“Nonsense!” I keep telling her. “If the House Republicans can reneg on a law enacted in 2010, we can reneg on the tax rate City Council enacted that year. Just pay the mortgage and insurance portions of the mortgage bill.”
But she doesn’t get it. “Honey, if we don’t lose the house we’re just gonna have to pay tax penalties that will cost us MORE later on.”
Yes, pp, it is their fault. They don’t get to pick and choose what they want to stay open. If you give in to extortion, you give the party in charge of the house, the okay to do this every time there is some law they don’t like. Children throwing temper tantrums should never be given in to, no matter how much they stomp their feet and scream.
Reading the link below will let you know that the healthcare reform idea, known today as the Affordable Care Act, originated from the Heritage Foundation in the late 1980s. That idea also included the individual mandate that seems to upset so many today. You will also not, I’m sure, that the U.S. Senator who initially introduced it to Congress was a Republican. Among the original sponsors of the legislation were Sen. Orrin Hatch of Utah and Sen. Charles Grassly of Iowa. I guess you could say they were for the Affordable Care Act before they were against it. The problem the GOPTea Party has with the Affordable Care Act is that it was passed by a Congress controlled by Democrats and signed into law by a Democrat president. To suggest that the GOPTea Party wants to fund the government besides one very controversial & divisive issue(they compromised) is a big stinking pile.
This preacher’s call for a military coup borders on being a treasonous act.
That should be “You will also note…”
Terrorists are alive and well in the United States. They are called “Congress”.
They have effectively held the entire country hostage with their childish games, extorting the american people out of the basics of life. They have stomped and trampled us all without regard for anyone but their selfish ideology. You are sick, overpaid obstructionists, and you all need to go.
Come on, pp, let’s see your response to Dan’s #4. He’s absolutely right, you know.
BTW, pp, the Dems com promised many times before the bill passed. And the Rethugs aren’t offering compromises now — every bill they’ve [assed comes down to the exact same thing — get rid of the ACA. That’s not compromise.
It is the Republicans fault. There’s little debate on that issue…even a lot of REPUBLICANS know it. Obama and the Senate need to not give one stinking inch on this, and certainly not get dragged into some Chinese restaurant menu of GOP pork a la carte funding.
The guy in the video is a moron and displays a profound lack of understanding of our military. Certainly its demographics.
While most of you ignored the video, please realize he is not the only preacher saying such things. There is a movement within the Baptist church preaching such foolishness. They have some retired military Admirals and Generals on board and are preaching this dangerous treason.
All because a black man with a funny name was elected President, RJB.
I watched the video. Disturbing. You say there are others, including a faction inside the Baptist, who are supporting this idea. Do you know the name of this faction, or can you provide a link?
RJB, I watched the video as well. There may be others calling for a military takeover, but I do not believe the Southern Baptists are among them. True, many of them are hypocrites and bigots, but they’re not actually stupid (at least, most of them aren’t). Do you have any links to back this up.
I’m not the most intelligent on this board, I admit. But I do know the Baptist way of thinking quite well. The Falwells are NOT mainstream Baptists, never have been, never will be. If you have links to provide this info that you described above that link Southern Baptists, I would like to see it.
Traitorous preacher pushes putrid political agenda behind his non-profit status “church pulpit.”
At the very least he should receive a visit from MIB and lose his tax free status.
What a moron. What of the Posse Comitatus Act of 1878? Martial law cannot be declared in the US without the consent of Congress. So much for the rule of law. I guess when you are preaching to overthrow the US government, little things like that don’t matter. Oh, and that getting congress to do anything?
Good luck with that..
Cold n P, welcome back!
Man, this past week must be long-lost posters week: Lori, Big Momma, now Cold n P!
A large chunk of the military enlisted population is African American. Good luck with that “coup” there, Klanners.
Cold n P, you have been missed!
Shirley, I never knew how many different factions of Baptists there were, until I traveled through the coalfields of VA to KY one time with a friend. There are a bunch of different varieties of Primitive Baptists alone, not to mention all the others. The term “Baptists” does not indicate only Southern Baptists, although lots of people seem to think it does.
So good to see you again Cold!!
#21 Debbie, my wife is a Baptist but not a Southern Baptist. Her church got the heck out of that organization when it declared that women couldn’t hold leadership positions.
Debbie, I realize what you are saying. I was raised Southern Baptist. IMany former Southern Baptist Churches now belong to the Alliance of Baptist Churches that was formed by more liberal Baptist Churches in the 1980s. The last Baptist church I attended belonged to the Alliance.
I’m also very aware of Primitive Baptists scattered throughout the South and as far north as Kentucky, and independent “Baptist” churches that have NO idea what the Baptist faith means. They just like the name. There is also the more liberal American Baptist churches mostly in the north. However, in this part of the country, Baptist generally means Southern Baptist or Jerry Falwell. Primitive Baptists generally get disturbed if you don’t put the word “primitive” in front of their name.
However, I stand by what I said earlier. The Southern and Primitive Baptist Churches are too busy “saving souls” worldwide — as they call it — to call for a military takeover. BTW, the Southern Baptist church of my childhood died in the 1980s.
Thank you, I am trying to get back in the fight. It’s been a very busy summer. I’ve been reading the blog though.
My ire is getting up for this Governor’s election. With everything going on in this country, the GOTP mucking up our very way of governing, Ken Cuccinelli could actually get a vote?
The Old Dominion has fallen on sad times. Surely the people are not so misguided to vote against their own interests and elect such a firebrand right wing nutjob as our Governor. Say it ain’t so…
I agree with you, Shirley. I was just stating the fact that I didn’t know there were so many different kinds until I was in the backwoods areas of Kentucky,
Cold n’ P, glad you’re back.
I’d add to your thoughts about the Va. Governor’s race that while electing McA is necessary to block Cooch, we can honestly acknowledge McA’s own potential shortcomings, and vow to keep him under tight scrutiny as governor, which should be more feasible to do after the McDonnell mess.
That’s also another good reason why it’s very important to elect Democrats in the AG and Lt. Gov. races.
Warren, I will be holding my nose while I vote this year. Your point is well taken.
I would prefer a better choice, however, we must vote for Terry to keep Ken from moving the state back 50 years socially. The man is a fanatic.
Let’s leave it that I heard about it from a deacon from a First Baptist Church, not in Roanoke. Southern Baptist whose minister had close ties to Judge Presser in Texas. I also listened to a speech by a retired admiral that came very close to stating this. He has been on Fox as well instigating. For those who do not k n ow, Presser started the conservative movement in the Southern Baptists and orchestrated their takeover. He is a leader in the political movement as well. Check out his friends and see what he did to Baptists.
YouTube has a plethora of preachers advocating hate, I cannot stand to watch them so I have no idea if they preach overthrow too.
I think Mr. Preacher Man may have done committed a crime. Call the cops!
According to U.S. Law Title 18>part1>ch.15.Sec.2385 Advocating overthrow of Government:
Whoever knowingly or willfully advocates, abets, advises, or teaches the duty, necessity, desirability, or propriety of overthrowing or destroying the government of the United States or the government of any State, Territory, District or Possession thereof, or the government of any political subdivision therein, by force or violence, or by the assassination of any officer of any such government; or
Whoever, with intent to cause the overthrow or destruction of any such government, prints, publishes, edits, issues, circulates, sells, distributes, or publicly displays any written or printed matter advocating, advising, or teaching the duty, necessity, desirability, or propriety of overthrowing or destroying any government in the United States by force or violence, or attempts to do so; or
Whoever organizes or helps or attempts to organize any society, group, or assembly of persons who teach, advocate, or encourage the overthrow or destruction of any such government by force or violence; or becomes or is a member of, or affiliates with, any such society, group, or assembly of persons, knowing the purposes thereof—
Shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than twenty years, or both, and shall be ineligible for employment by the United States or any department or agency thereof, for the five years next following his conviction.
You do not have to look hard to find evidence the right is completely insane:
“Larry Klayman [The Judicial Watch founder, WorldNetDaily columnist and conspiracy theory enthusiast] has organized what he called a “citizens grand jury” for the third time this week seeking “indictments” against President Obama, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Attorney General Eric Holder, among others.“
THE OPPOSITE OF A POSITIVE
The opposite of a positive is always a negative. When the positive is stated it is understood that absent the positive, that the negative occurs or has occurred. Example: If a person is alive, that is a positive. The negative is the opposite, which is, a person is dead.
Matthew 24:11-13…..13 But the one who endures to the end, he will be saved.
The positive stated: He who endures will be saved.
The negative implied: He who does not endure will not be saved.
Mark 16:16 He who has believed and has been baptized shall be saved; but he who has disbelieved shall be condemned.
The positive stated: He who has believed and has been baptized shall be saved.
The negative axiom: He who has not been baptized will not be saved.
Luke 7:50 And He said to the woman, “Your faith has saved you; go in peace.”
The positive stated: Her faith saved her.
The negative inference: Without faith she would not have been saved.
Romans 9:27 Isaiah cries out concerning Israel, “Though the number of the sons of Israel be like the sands of the sea, it is the remnant that will be saved;
The positive stated: A remnant of Israel will be saved.
The negative understanding: The whole of Israel will not be saved.
John 10:9 I am the door; if anyone enters through Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture.
The positive stated: If anyone enters through Jesus he will be saved.
The negative implication: By not entering through Jesus you will remain unsaved.
Acts 2:41,47 So then, those who had received his word were baptized; and that day there added about three thousand souls. 47…And the Lord was adding to their number day by day those who were being saved.
The positive stated: The Lord was adding the saved to His church. (The saved were those who believed the gospel and were baptized.)
The negative implication: Those who did not believe Peter’s message and were not
baptized, were not saved, and they were not added to the church.
Romans 10:13 for “Whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
The positive: If you recognize the authority of the Lord and appeal to His authority you will be saved.
The negative implication: If you deny the authority of the Lord, and do not call on Him, you will be lost.
1 Peter 3:20-21…safely through water. 21 Corresponding to that , baptism now saves you—not the removal of dirt from the flesh, but an appeal to God for a good conscience—through the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
The positive: Baptism saves you.
The negative axiom: Those who are not baptized remain unsaved.
THE OPPOSITE OF A POSITIVE IS ALWAYS A NEGATIVE!
Revelation 2:10 Do not fear what you are about to suffer. Behold, the devil is about to cast some of you into prison, so that you will be tested, and you will have tribulation for ten days. Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life.
The positive stated: Remain faithful in order to receive the crown of life.
The implied negative : If you do not remain faithful you will not receive the crown of life.

Metro Columnist Dan Casey knows a little bit about a lot of things but not a heck of a lot about most things. That doesn't keep him from writing about them, however. So keep him honest!
He welcomes your rants, raves and considered opinions, so long as the language is civil (i.e. no four-letter words). He'll read all your posts and may or may not respond.
