Your daily Letter to the Columnist — Oct. 1, 2013
Note from Dan: Two months ago this blog featured a guest post by Carol Sue Slusser about a bill for her husbands helicopter flight from Carilion New River Valley Medical Center in Radford to the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville. The total bill was $32,625, and the balance was $23,495 after Anthem paid 9,129. Med Trans Air Medical Transport was willing to accept less than that, however. Below is the latest. Ms. Slusser is one of a number of people I’ve heard from who are overjoyed their bills have been settled. Some have even gotten refunds!
Hi Dan (AKA…our hero!!)
I am writing to thank you from the very bottom of my heart for bringing attention to the MedTrans/Carilion issue. You were the first person that I wanted to contact with the good news we received in the mail today – A corrected bill from Med-Trans for Michael Slusser that read like this:
Total Charges 32,625.63
Total Credits 32,625.63
I cannot tell you how much we appreciate your articles that brought the media attention to this issue that was so desperately needed. I hope your inbox is filled with many more thank you’s from others that were in our shoes and have received good news.
THANK YOU! THANK YOU!
Michael and Carol Slusser
