Your daily Letter to the Editor — Dec. 6, 2013
Note from Dan: Here’s by far the best letter to the editor from today’s paper. Apparently the 581 overpass in question is the one near Target/Best Buy close to Valley View Mall. That’s in the city of Roanoke. It’ll be a nice “welcome” for Sarah Palin, who’ll be at Barnes & Noble selling her new book there Saturday.
Pearl Harbor Day is Saturday, the 72nd anniversary of our nation being attacked by Japan, killing 2,400 sailors.
America is a diverse nation; we have many ways to recognize this historical event. Take, for example, the Roanoke Tea Party “patriots.” They’ve chosen to honor the 2,400 killed by massing on an overpass near Valley View Mall during one of the busiest shopping days of the year and shouting at the traffic below, demanding President Obama be impeached.
As a vet who began his boot camp on this day 30 years ago, I’m appalled that a supposedly patriotic group would choose this day for its nonsensical behavior. Who came up with the bright idea to encourage drivers traveling 55 mph to take their eyes off the road to read protest signs?
Oh, I forgot; the same circular firing squad that this year nominated E.W. Jackson, quite possibly the worst candidate ever for lieutenant governor. Quite the visionaries.
I encourage everyone to call Roanoke
County Police Saturday to complain about this hazardous distraction.
