Darn — I missed the first Open Carry Day event Saturday in the Craig County town of New Castle — I was in Blacksburg, watching the Maryland Terps beat Virginia Tech’s Hokies. No word yet on how drastic the Open Carry Day’s impact was on New Castle’s tourism. But below is some video from the event. Among the attendees was John Ainsworth of Charlotte, N.C. He’s the “chief magistrate” and “sitting governor” of the North-Carolina American Republic, a rump government that’s (so far) peacefully tolerating the illegal (he says) state of North Carolina. NCAR is attempting to reach back 148 years to reverse the “criminal acts” of reconstruction and the 14th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which created an “illegal system” of government across the land, and return instead to a “Christian nation,” and something that sounds more along the lines of the Articles of Confederation. NCAR is also seeking to spread its movement to Virginia. But in North Carolina it’s being stymied by “illegal judges” who sit on “illegal courts.” Here’s the video, which gets interesting about the 18-minute mark. Read below for the money quote that starts around 22:00.
Ainsworth to the gun rally: “This is a legal fight . . . We’re dead serious to fight and get this country back. I’m looking for Americans that want to help us get this country back. . . . I’m tired of being on my knees, begging this government that I know is going to do nothing, to actually do something. As Americans we gotta stop living on our knees, stand up, grow a backbone, quit succumbing to political correctness, grab the truth, throw away everything else, and grab our Lord Jesus. And get the truth back. And become a moral people who want to be moral again.”
Bottom line: it’s a whole lot of historical and extra-Constitutional gobbledegook. It’s sounds to me like Ainsworth’s walking a fine line, avoiding calling outright for armed insurrection while hinting that day may be coming. He sounds frustrated, as if he’s disinclined to patiently wait forever for authorities to realize he’s fundamentally correct.
I wonder about a message like that at a gun rally.
By the way, Philip Van Cleave of the Virgina Citizens Defense League takes the podium at 38:26 — and he kicks it off by trashing Maryland!
