Note from Dan: Below is one of 8 or 10 emails I got Saturday from Anna Nix, the indefatigable press secretary for the Cuccinelli-for-Governor campaign. This one resurrects the silly canard that members of Congress and their staffs should have to give up their subsidized (through their employer) healthcare and buy it through exchanges, “the exact same way other American citizens will purchase their health insurance.”
It’s a phony argument though, because despite the Affordable Care Act, most Americans who have health insurance still get it subsidized through their employers. Why can’t members of Congress and their staff continue on “the exact same way” as those Americans?
Bottom line: The phrase “the rest of the country,” implies that everyone other than Congress must purchase health insurance through exchanges — and that’s simply untrue. It appears designed to deceive people who don’t know any better. Anyway, I responded to the press release with the email that’s below it. The campaign has sent me at least 8 more messages since then — but they haven’t answered my question. And I’m not holding my breath!

Yet this week, even as hundreds of thousands of our fellow citizens are getting notices from their health insurance carriers notifying them of cancelled coverage due to ObamaCare mandates, and as millions of others are denied the ability to enroll in the exchanges due to the federal government’s inability to produce a functioning web site with ‘only’ three years’ lead time, members of Congress have been spending their time deciding whom on their staffs will not be required to give up their generous Federal Employee Health Benefits Plan and go into the exchanges, as the law clearly requires.
