About 600 people now live in downtown Roanoke
Ten years ago, the census counted about 50 people living in downtown Roanoke. Now it’s up to about 600.
Jenny Boone looks at the growth of downtown living — and Sheila Ellis reports on a grocery store that is about to open on Church Avenue to serve this growing neighborhood of downtown dwellers.

Downtown is such an awesome place.
The architectural diversity is wonderful and I hope it continues
to push boundaries while preserving our historic structures at
the same time. Roanoke can and will continue to see this rebirth
of Downtown and with it will come more full-time residents,
more amenities for locals and tourists alike. Let’s all support
it – after all, it truly is the heart of The Star City.
