Giant Cucumber

I thought you’d all like to see a picture of this giant cucumber, grown by George Gobble of Roanoke.

He grew it from seed and it weighs in at 7-1/2 pounds, and is 33 inches long.

Does anyone else have any photos of giant veggies to share?  If so, email them to me at nrvgardener@yahoo.com and I’ll post them out here for others to see.

On another topic, I’m growing Jerusalem artichokes for the first time.  The plants are getting huge and are very healthy (part of what survived the tree!), but no yellow flowers yet.  Does anyone know when they are supposed to flower?

Mine in Montgomery County typically bloom in September.

I’ll run this by the board. I’ve seen zero wasp and yellow jacket nests this summer, so far. Can’t ever remember that before. Chime in.

My wife planted some seeds and she got the same kind of product–only about 14″ long–what is it call? Is it edible? Henderson Neveda.
