Got a buddy in western NC. that has the compost pile to end piles. Said it was maybe 40′ long, 6′wide and in a ditch maybe 4′ deep. He added red wrigglers when he started and they are thick now. He adds to it every year. Would night crawlers work as well?

wd – aren’t night crawlers just earthworms, or am I displaying some ignorance? If so, that would work!

One of the most interesting compost piles I’ve viewed was actually a pit, not a pile. They just dug a pit and threw everything in there and let it sit. After 2-3 years, it was usable and dug up.
