Compost in 14 Days

There is a method in which you can make usable compost in 14 days.  I found this when reading about compost in my Encyclopedia of Organic GardeningEOG waxes poetic about composting, BTW.

The method is labor intensive and requires lots of hand-on management.  The key seems to be shredding everything that’s going into the pile and mixing everything, instead of layering it.

If you’re interested in learning this method, GardeningGuides.com has the steps listed online here.

If anyone tries this, post back and let us know your results.

Now, I’m done talking about compost, so that will be my last posting on this topic for a while!

After counting the costs in time and lawn mower maintenance, this might be a bit expensive compared to the long term piles. If I am not overly busy, I do generally use hand pruners and cut large flower and vegetable stalks into sections before leaving them to compost.
