There’s a frost advisory tonight. Even if we don’t get frost tonight, it’s coming soon, so hopefully you are taking precautions.
Today was gorgeous so it was perfect outside for those right-before-frost chores. The last of the tomatoes were picked, as were all of the peppers and tomatillos that were big enough. We’ll see how the weather goes and whether or not any of those remaining peppers or tomatillos will get a chance to grow larger.
I picked the basil too – finally! – and will be making some pesto for the freezer tonight. I still have some other herbs that need attention before frost hits.
If you haven’t already, pick all your green tomatoes and bring them indoors to ripen. Most of them will ripen indoors, whereas outdoor tomatoes will be killed by even a light frost.
The one thing we haven’t harvested yet that we really should have was the sweet potatoes, so I guess those will get covered tonight. I really have to get those out of the ground this week!
Here’s a good article I found for reference on the frost tolerance of different vegetables. Is everybody ready for colder weather?
