Christmas Day restaurant openings

I’ve received a call or two from readers who are interested in knowing what restaurants will be open on Christmas Day. I’m told that we will shortly be running a big advertisement containing this information, but thanks to the ad rep, Jeremy, I have a list right now that I can share with you guys.

I’m afraid the list is a little short and heavy on the Asian cuisine. But hey, if it was good enough for the family in “A Christmas Story,” it’s good enough for me!

Open Christmas Day:

Hotel Roanoke (booked)
Inn at Virginia Tech (Preston’s)
Cracker Barrel
Golden Corral
IHOP
Denny’s
Szechuan
Ichiban
Sakura

If anyone knows of other places that will be open, please let me know so I can pass those along to readers. Thanks!

I believe Waffle House is also open.

I have not verified this, but I do not think Golden Corral is open Christmas Day.
If they are it is a first for this area.

Nothing says Christmas better than a Chinese-style roasted duck, still looking at you (from A Christmas Story).

Golden Corral in Roanoke has informed me that they WILL NOT be open on Christmas Day. I called over there to be sure and that is what I was told.

I believe Success Chinese Buffet on Melrose is open on Xmas day. They have been in the past.

Thank you, Billy Booth, for informing me that the Golden Corral information may be incorrect. I’ll be sure to check on that first thing Monday.

Nawab downtown is usually open on Christmas Day, but I have not confirmed that.

I know that the Omelet Shop in Salem is open, and Awful Arthur’s has been open in the past. But, they open at seven PM and it’s mostly the bar that is open, they may have a limited menu as well.

Golden Corral – The human Pigsty.
Can someone tell me why any sane person would ever venture into that madhouse, Golden Corral? If for no other reason, the fire marshal should shut the place down for overcrowding. Heaven help anyone if anything ever happened out there which required a quick exit. I have never seen a poorer layout of food lines, crowded tables, filthy buffet tables, food on the floor et al. I went once, and will never make that mistake again. It had all the charm of a post apocalyptic world, with humans scrambling over each other to eat.

Table 50 is open tonight til 7 pm. Not sure about Christmas day.

    Is Applebees open on Christmas?

  16. Debbie | December 5, 2012 at 4:22 pm

I have seen a sign on the front door at:

    China Gate
    Lake Drive Plaza
    (At Kroger’s in Vinton Va.
    Beside Subway Restaurant)

The sign said that they will be open on Christmas day Dec. 2012.

This an Asian Buffet, is very tasty.
