Pray for a friend in the restaurant biz
UPDATE 11:44 a.m.: A Carilion spokesman says Daniel Knight is in good condition. And here is a little more info on Cathy Benson’s blog, The Botetourt View. End update.
I have learned this morning that a devastating house fire in Botetourt County yesterday evening was at the home of Daniel Knight, the owner of Blue Collar Joe’s donuts. Here is a link to reporter Lerone Graham’s story about the blaze. My colleague, Nona Nelson, who writes the Happy Wag blog, is a big fan of Blue Collar Joe’s and stopped in this morning to see how Daniel and his family are doing.
She was told Daniel suffered smoke inhalation during the fire and is in the hospital recovering. The Knights are such wonderful, friendly people. I pray that nobody else was hurt, that they got their pets out in time and that Daniel has a rapid recovery.
I’ll be back later with some other food news. Gotta go to the dentist.

I will definitely keep the Knight family in my thoughts and prayers! My family and I LOVE Blue Collar Joes (so do our four legged children!) I hope everyone is okay!
I am so glad you posted this Lindsey. I heard last last night and my heart breaks for them. They are such wonderful people in our community! They do so much more than bring sweets to Daleville. They promote animal awareness and bring smiles to the faces of people and animals in Botetourt. Please everyone keep them in your prayers.
Please stop buy the shop and pick up a dozen donuts or an ice cream cone to support this lovely family.
That’s such a shame to hear. Daniel is such a nice guy and I’m a big fan of Blue Collar Joes. I hope they get back on their feet soon and that everyone is ok.
I am told by a mutual friend that all the Knights’ pets were rescued from the home and are safe and sound.
The shop was busy this morning and the doughnuts were as delicious as they always are.
Hoping for Daniels speedy recovery! Love the shop and he’s a wonderful addition to the animal rescue community. Stop by the shop to support these wonderful folks, please! You’ll be glad you did!
Well, I guess the diet will have to take a back seat to helping out the Knight family!
I am Daniel’s sister and wanted to check in and thank you all for the kind comments. As of noon today, Daniel was still on the ventilator and heavily sedated. Bank of Fincastle will be setting up a fund for those who wish to donate (although I am sure my brother will be mortified!). We are also looking for potential homes for them to rent with their four large (but wellbehaved!) dogs.
If you would like to help, please tell everyone to stop in this week and grab a coffee, ice cream or some doughnuts. More than anything I want him to come out of the hospital and have some good news knowing his restaurant was busy and well taken care of by his great staff.

Thank you so much for the update, Liz.
The family is very concerned about Daniel and he and Pru are in our prayers.
