If you’ve been following Roanoke Times blogs lately, you’ve probably noticed a lot of restaurant news. I recently noted that Roanoke Bagel Co. is opening a second location. Jenny wrote about the downtown Thai restaurant changing hands, the Hershberger Road Taco Bell‘s remodeling plans and Chipotle’s new opening date in Blacksburg. And the Blue Ridge Business Journal blog, The Ticker, reported about a new tapas restaurant open at the lake.
And now, two more items: The Cambria Suites hotel that opened recently on Reserve Avenue near Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital features an American-style sit-down restaurant called Reflect. The kitchen at Reflect is headed by Chef James Ferrone, a Culinary Institute of America graduate who previously worked at Hotel Roanoke, The Glebe and the Village at Pheasant Ridge.
Reflect, which is a Cambria Suites restaurant chain, offers a Wolfgang Puck coffee shop with specialty drinks, a la carte breakfast items and will occasionally have a breakfast buffet. They also have appetizers such as buffalo chicken tenders, spinach dip and oven-baked goat cheese with pesto crostini. The menu also offers soup and salads, pizza, burgers, sandwiches (including a California Club with avocado), and entrees such as chicken piccata, St. Louis ribs and meatloaf. There is a full-service bar, too.

On the smaller scale, more independent front, I received an e-mail yesterday from Jamie McKibben at the Olde Salem Mercantile about a new cafe called the Ridge Runner Cafe which has opened inside the mercantile. Here is what Jamie had to say:
“I just wanted to pass along some info to you for the Fridge Magnet about the cafe opening inside my shop. Olde Salem Mercantile is on Apperson Dr. next to Onyx Hair Salon and inside is Ridge Runner Cafe. Pam Christianson opened up this past Saturday and will have her full menu starting tomorrow, Tuesday the 14th. She will be open Tuesday through Friday from 11:00 [a.m.] – 2:00 [p.m.] and may open on Saturdays into October. She will be offering chicken salad croissants, tuna salad, egg salad, and more, as well as a special of the day. She will also have a variety of soups, tomato, potato, and chicken noodle.”
This has been your new restaurant report for the day. But who knows, something else will probably come around tomorrow! Stay hungry!
