We have a ham winner, now moving on to beans

Congratulations to Cameron, who won the cookbook “Ham: An Obsession with the Hindquarter” from Monday’s giveaway.

The next cookbook we have to giveaway is “Bean Appetit: Hip and Healthy Ways to Have Fun With Food.”

The book is from the owners of cafes in Wisconsin, including one located in the children’s museum in Madison.

In this collection are recipes geared to appeal to kids and it includes games, fun facts and even tips for table manners.

If you have an aspiring chef in your family, post a comment about the favorite food your child likes to prepare.

Winner will be chosen randomly and will be announced tomorrow.

My 12 y.o. son loves to make home-made “ice cream in-a-bag”. It is simple for him to place all the ingredients in a zip-lock baggie, but the hard part is then having to shake the baggie for at least 5 minutes before the ice-cream is ready!!!

We don’t eat beans, in addition to pork, and gluten, and a variety of herbs and spices, and most dairy products…so good luck to whomever does win this and would put it to good use!

My wife has an allergy to legumes, so we just avoid beans. It’s a darn good thing neither one of us is a vegetarian though…almost every vegetarian food out there has some form of wheath and/or gluten item plus beans, in order to supply substance and proteins…so we’d be eating nothing but salads and steamed veggies and rice if that was the case. I think I’d go nuts.

My son is only 1 so we don’t cook together just yet but he likes to be in the kitchen when I cook and has his own measuring cups!

Other John…sounds like we out to have dinner, lol! We dont eat any grains or legumes, although I have a serious addiction to pork belly from Mountain run farm :)

I would love this book for my nephew – he’s very picky about food and his mom is always looking for tips to help him eat a more varied diet.

My kids LOVE helping me make snow ice cream during the winter – last year we made a lot of it!

my niece enjoys cooking and being in the kitchen. she loves to bake and decorate cakes – even decorated a cake for her sister’s graduation party! she’s really good at it, too.

Our son likes to make play-doh “spaghetti.” He’s only 2, so he doesn’t really cook yet. He does help me stir sometimes, though.

Our two year old loves to help cook. Pies, biscuits and other items that can be prepped away from hot and sharp items. She will eat nearly any fruit or veggie however we cannot get ther to eat ANY beans, so I am desperate for some kid friendly ideas!!

My kids always loved to “help” cook and were pretty creative too. They loved the chopping and mixing, decorating cookies, and making dips and cheese balls. Their favorite snack was “trees” which was broccoli florets with Ranch dressing.

One thing that was a ritual was the Thanksgiving and Christmas batches of ChexMix and they could add whatever they thought would go good in the original recipe. Goldfish, Cheese-its, Croutons were favs.

Both are grown and gone and I still make the same dips, cheese balls and ChexMix so they have the “comfort” of old favs when they come home.

Since a favorite at my house is my “Bean Soup” I cannot imagine life without beans.

My 7 year old grandson is with me frequently and loves to help me in the kitchen. “We” cook many things and I don’t think I could accurately guess his favorite, but this summer I added mint to my herb garden and he adores it in iced tea. We make a mint simple syrup which I keep in the refrigerator for his tea and he tells people it is “our recipe.” With a decidedly serious demeanor he recently informed me that he is trying to decide whether to be a fireman or a chef when he grows up. He went on to say that he would need to use my cookbooks if he decides to be a chef.
