Guitar and gumbo

This is craziness, people. Craziness. And if you don’t have any plans tonight and are looking for something to do, you should consider checking out The Sauce Boss at Blue 5 at 312 2nd St. in Roanoke.

Who, or what, is The Sauce Boss? It’s Bill Wharton, a Florida slide guitar blues player who actually makes gumbo on stage while playing live music. I am not kidding.

According to Wharton’s website, he has cooked gumbo on stage for more than 170,000 people, adding his “famous Liquid Summer hot sauce” to every batch and playing away on that guitar all the while. At the end of the show, the audience gets to taste the gumbo, and the best part is that there’s no cover charge for this show.

I wonder how good the gumbo is? I wonder if he’s ever dropped a guitar pick in there? Well, I wonder a lot of things. And if I can get my booty over there tonight, I’ll maybe find some answers. The show starts at 9:30 p.m.
