Why I love cooking: Cooking is something that I’ve been increasingly interested in since I was in middle school. I started out thinking I could just make up recipes in my head and they’d turn out perfectly, but I learned you have to both practice cooking and be willing to learn from your mistakes in the kitchen. Cooking is an escape for me, and feeding people and seeing them enjoying my food is one of the most joyful experiences I can have.

I am really enjoying the Look Who’s Cooking columns.
You’re welcome. Those compost cookies are the best chocolate chip cookies I’ve ever had. I love the sweet and salty flavor.
Hey Debbie, what mix do you generally use in these cookies?
And I do love reading these columns too!
I’m also enjoying the columns. Thanks for profiling such interesting people!
Mag, I made them for the first time Sunday. I looked up the recipe after reading the column. I used what I had in the house, which was just chocolate chips and crushed up pretzels. I’ll definitely add potato chips and butterscoth chips the next time. I’ll be more prepared then.
You can add rice crispies or oats too, As long as you follow the measurements, you’re okay.
I read one blog about it and the blogger said her daughter put in Fritos and Goldfish crackers. I don’t want my choc chip cookies tasting like corn chips or cheese.
I like the chocolate chips and pretzels idea. I was wondering about the potato chips though. Let me know how that goes for you.
Yeah, the Fritos/Goldfish don’t do it for me either. I wonder how it’d taste if you used chocolate covered pretzels and not added in the chocolate chips? Although I know my kids would want both!
I’d say chocolate covered pretzels would be good. Maybe just breaak them up instead of crushing them. The main thing with these cookies is chill the dough and the sheet pan well. I chilled mine for two hours.
