Taste wine, help tornado victims

Mr. Bill’s Wine Cellar on Brambleton Avenue in Roanoke is hosting a beer and wine tasting tomorrow, Saturday, April 23 from noon to 5 p.m. Although the tasting is free, they’ll be collecting voluntary donations for tornado victims in Pulaski County.
Specifically, they hope to raise enough money to help buy 10 bundles of shingles ($200), a construction ladder ($200), 10 heavy duty rakes ($150) and 10 round shovels ($200). Shop owner Bill Philips plans to deliver the items himself on Easter Sunday.
Again, you don’t have to make a donation. If you want, go on by and taste some wines.
The topic of Mr. Bill’s, which sells the widest selection of Virginia wines in the area, makes me think about a discussion I have been wanting to have on this blog. What is your favorite Virginia winery and/or your favorite Virginia wine?

What time is the tasting?
It is from noon to 5 p.m. Thanks for the catch, Roanoke. I’ve added the time to the entry.
Our favorite Virginia winery so far is the Peaks of Otter winery. We had lots of fun at the tasting and they have a great variety to choose from.
My favorite Virginia wine is the West Wind Farm & Winery. Their riesling is one of the best I have ever had. Last year they were at the Vinton Chamber of Commerce Wine Festival, which is coming up again soon. I believe they will be there – their wine is only available at the winery and festivals. This year I plan to stock up!
