Win tickets to explore The Wine Trail of Botetourt County

Hello everyone! This is Rebecca Holland (RT staffer and Shoptimist blogger) stepping in for Lindsey. I know it’s only Thursday, but I thought we could have some fun and start the weekend early.

The Wine Trail of Botetourt County Summer Concert Series is in full swing, and I’ve got 2 free tickets to give away for a lucky reader. The concert, featuring Solrevolt, is happening June 18 at 6 p.m. at Virginia Mountain Vineyards. Entry includes a souvenir wine glass and tasting.

So how can you get your hands on these tickets (valued at $10 a piece)? Leave a comment below telling me about your favorite local winery — which it is and why you’re so fond of it – by Friday at 4 p.m. A winner will be chosen at random and notified Friday afternoon.

For a close by winery, we love going to Valhalla. They have, or used to have a late harvest Alicante Bouschet 2001. It was so good that we have bought about 4 cases since it’s release and still have about one case in the wine fridge! Another winery that we love to drive to is Savoy Lee near SML. They have great sangria and Cab Franc. The company there is great too!

I have to go with Chateau Morrisette as my favorite. My husband (who was my boyfriend at the time) took me there for the first time for my birthday a few years ago. We got to spend the day together touring the winery, wine tasting, and just enjoying the beauty of the Blue Ridge Parkway together. Great memory!

I have to admit I’ve only been to a couple a local wineries, but I really enjoyed Chatteau Morrisette. The scenery from the winery is absolutely beautiful and every time I’ve done a tasting there the staff have been so fun and friendly!

Never been to a local winery here but would love to try it.

I really like the Peaks of Otter winery at the Johnson’s farm. It’s old fashioned and they have things for family to do too. My kids love the giant pig they have in the bottom of the orchards. :)

I love visiting the Fincastle Winery, not only because I live in Fincastle and it’s close by, but the owners are warm, hospitable and knowledgeable, and their wines are affordable and the BEST!

My Wife and I adore Chateau Morrissette. It holds such fond memories for us as it is where we became engaged. Whenever we need an evening away from the kids and the hustle and bustle of reality we love to make reservations for dinner and just immerse ourselves in the winery itself. I know it always seems cliche to mention this winery as your favorite if you’re from the area, however they have over the many years we have been going kept their menu dynamic and their wines consistently bold with unmatched character and body considering the eastern climate. We both like to consider it our little slice of heaven right outside of Roanoke and it is a place that is so very near and dear to our hearts.

My favorite winery is Blue Ridge Vineyards. It is one of the most peaceful places to visit in the area. When you are there you can’t help but relax. The staff is always so friendly and the wine is delicious. My fiance and I are hosting our rehearsal dinner there in a few weeks and we absolutely cannot wait to share one of our favorite places with all of our friends and family!

I am completely enamored with West Wind Winery, located in Max Meadows. I would choose their Reisling and their pinot gris over any other winery. These are the perfect addition to a summer day – crisp and refreshing, yet semi-dry and neat. Because they only sell at festivals or the winery, I only attend festivals that list them as a vendor. All of their wines are wonderful. Having said that, my Botetourt friends have suggested I expand my local winery knowledge, so these tickets would be the perfect opportunity!

My husband and I love going to different wineries but we love the Peaks of Otter winery. The person who did the tasting on our last visit was great and so much fun! We bought several bottles while there and have enjoyed trying “the Kiss” in several dishes. We look forward to our next visit!

I must say I love the Blue Ridge Vineyards… They are located in such a beautiful spot with breathtaking views of the mountains! I love they festivals and off course they wine… I always feel great when I go and visit them, not only are they pet friendly, and have a super cool dog that can do a bunch of tricks, but it feels good to support our own local economy. You can tell its a family own place.

We just like them all. Everyone is so informative and gracious. We always have a good time.

After attending the VA Tech WIne festival this past weekend, I have to say my favorite local winery may be one that won’t open their tasting room for a few more weeks…Attimo Winery in the Christiansburg/Riner area. Their wines were unbelievably good for such a young group and I can’t wait to see what they come up with next.

  14. Kristin | June 9, 2011 at 3:33 pm

I love Blue Ridge Vineyards. The winery is nestled in a rolling hill landscape with great live music many weekends. Their wines are fantastic, in fact, they made a red wine lover out of my husband thanks to Big Bear Red. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable about the wines.

I think regional wine needs to be supported!

  16. Lori | June 9, 2011 at 5:03 pm

Chateau Morrisette is my favorite. Lots of memories. Love the drive there and the views once you get there and of course the wine!

  17. Cody | June 9, 2011 at 5:07 pm

I have to go with Chateau Morrisette as well.

I mean, it’s the only one I’ve been to…and I know the people that run it…

And it’s a great place too, haha.

  18. KyAnne | June 9, 2011 at 10:30 pm

My husband and I love to go to Valhalla Vineyards for their concerts. The view up there is amazing and the people are always so nice!

  19. Sara | June 10, 2011 at 4:18 am

We love the Blue Ridge vineyard, not only for its wines, but for the beautiful atmosphere they have. We have been there on several occasions and it has always been such a wonderful experience!

  20. Rachael | June 10, 2011 at 10:18 am

We actually haven’t been to many of the wineries in the area. Last summer, however, we did go to Chateau Morrisette and it was beautiful! The wine was good, and the music on the hill was great. Nothing like wine, blues, and a picnic under the sun!

  21. Theresa Bell | June 10, 2011 at 1:00 pm

Love Blue Ridge Vineyard!! Have never been to Virginia Mountains Vineyard but would love to give it a try!

  22. Thora Siegel | June 10, 2011 at 2:16 pm

I just moved here so I don’t have a favorite winery yet. I am looking forward to learning about them and finding my favorite, though. So I’ll just tell you about my favorite kind of wine, k? I enjoy a good pinot noir with undertones of blackberry.
