A great Friday photo

Anybody who has vacationed in the Outer Banks ought to be familiar with this little stand on the beach road, John’s Drive-in. It serves some of the best burgers, crinkle-cut fries and homemade milkshakes you’ll ever taste.

I have friends and family members in the Outer Banks and look forward to John’s every summer. One of their specialties is the Dolphin Boat, which is basically a fish and chips-type basket. I was amused by this photo. But I also hope John’s, as well as all of our other favorite haunts up and down the East Coast and the people who haunt them, are spared too much damage from this storm.

I was on vacation in Salvo, NC last week (lucky, huh?). I’ve visited the Outer Banks before, and these eateries will be in my thoughts:

    Darrell’s Seafood Restaurant
    Jason’s Restaurant (Ocracoke)
    John’s Drive-In
    Orange Blossom Bakery/Cafe
    Thai Moon (Ocracoke)
    Tortuga’s Lie
    Uncle Eddy’s Frozen Custard

I hope all who work and live there will be OK.

I would add to that list JK’s, where my buddy Rick is a bartender. And the Kill Devil Grill, where they have awesome cheese steak eggrolls :-)

    Long Live Howard’s Pub, Ocracoke!

I love Back Porch and Cafe Atlantic, and Flying Melon and Dajio’s all on Ocracoke…I hope they make it through ok.

Uncle Dak, I wonder if Howard’s is open today.

And Lindsey I hope your family and friends there are ok.

Not to take away from Johns, but when JK’s was still at the miniature golf place, the had the best Saint Louis style ribs this side of the Mississippi. After they moved, “Thumbs Down” now, well compared to what they use to be.
