More Ukrops at Kroger

The folks from Good Meadow Homemades, an outgrowth of the Ukrops company, are going to be beefing up their selection in area Kroger stores.

Good Meadow Homemades already was stocking some favorites from the old Ukrops stores at local Krogers, including White House Rolls, tarts and cookies. This summer, some Kroger stores also started to carry Good Meadow prepared sandwiches, salads, sides and desserts.

Now, the company is going to bring chilled, prepared entrees to the market. These include their Chicken Cobbler, Baked Spaghetti, Grilled Chicken with BBQ Sauce, Meatloaf and Cheddar Mashed Potatoes, Pork Enchiladas and Pulled Pork Barbeque. These meals will be available in the not-too-distant future at the following Kroger stores:

903 University City Boulevard, Blacksburg_
1322 Main Street, Blacksburg
72 Kingston Drive, Daleville
15069 Forest Road, Forest
7805 Timberlake Road, Lynchburg
4119 Boonsboro Road, Lynchburg
3907 Valley Gateway Boulevard, Roanoke
4404 Brambleton Avenue, Roanoke
3971 Brambleton Avenue, Roanoke
1477 Main Street, Salem

Pre-made, fully-cooked entrees such as these seem to be pretty popular. I see other brands at the grocery store and I noticed the other day that Sam’s Club is carrying a larger selection of prepared salads and entrees than I remembered. They certainly are convenient, but I wonder if they’re good.

Has anyone tried any pre-made entrees they would recommend?

Yay! I’m excited to hear this! I really missed Ukrops’ prepared foods. Thanks, Kroger, for helping bring them back!

Kroger’s in-house salads were far better than the Good Meadow product, which taste like they rode from Richmon or wherever on a slow train.

I bought Ukrop’s rainbow cookies at the Kroger in Christiansburg about two weeks ago. As transported Richmonder, it made me very, very happy. This makes me even happier!

All these pre-made entrees fall under the Just Okay category. This is, of course, assuming you’re not among those who think of Stouffer’s Lasagna as “like Mom used to make.” :-)

I’ve tried a couple of sides, and maybe one entree, all marked down to really cheap. They all fit my wife’s word, “uneventful.” So much so that I don’t even remember the brand name(s).

For those on the go, it’s good to have choices and not just fast food, but never as good as what you can do at home. Thanks to Good Meadow for filling that void.

With regard to prepared sandwiches, just about anything is better than the sandwiches Kroger was selling. Those have gone seriously downhill in recent years.

I am crossing my fingers and hoping (like a kid for a new bike on Christmas Eve) that they will bring the three-bean salad to Kroger. I lived on it growing up, and always have to buy a pound when I go to visit my parents.

I miss the chicken salad and redskin potato salad! They were better than I can make from scratch. Ukrops, bring ‘em back!

I don’t miss Ukrops prepared foods at all; they were very disappointing after all the hype.

Another native Richmond-er here…grew up near the West Broad Ukrops. I sure was sad when Roanoke’s closed and look forward to seeing some old favorites! Too bad the Christiansburg Kroger is not included. Thanks for the article and heads-up!

I checked out those prepare foods last night when I was in Kroger. I thought the prices were way too high for the little bit of food that was in the container. Give me Krogers roasted chickens, those are very good.

To the two or three that state This seems like an atactk! , well a big BOO-HOO to you! I think this is a breath of fresh air for this city, because for the first time in 3 years since i moved back (lived in Roanoke total 28yrs), I find some people with the same fustration that i have about my city. The information is public, but it seems that we live in one of the few cities in America, where it’s citizens wont confront their elected officals unless they step foot in their front yards, no matter how crappy of a job they are doing. I personally like the city manager, and think she has some good points to her, but I feel she needs to step down. Our city is mismanaged, BOTTOM LINE>.I blame them all down to the recycled city mayor, council, and manager for the mismanagement.I second opinion, that until the people of Roanoke city finally get good and tired of having our mayor, council, and manager leans towards their career moves and pet projects; nothing is going to happen. I love the old clip from the original Batman movie with Jack Nicholson as Joker ?This city needs an enema!?Have you been to a council voting? The turnout is horrible!! Nobody cares who runs their city, but are the first to complain about it. Make sure you tell your friends and family about the upcoming ones, because the only people that truly get the word is the ?GO TO? voter areas where these guys get the votes they need to get in their, and the true middle class families that produce the tax revenue to support the city are the ones that suffer. And they eventually end up moving (ex. decrease in population) to an area that they can see their tax money benefiting them and not some council member?s or manager?s wet dream of an amphitheater.Should’nt we be more invested in a water system that doesnt need a patch every two months and every five feet? How about the crappy roads with potholes and patches every 5feet or the confusing design of the on and off ramps for 581, ect.? Why in the world can we not get decent services for basic city needs w/o hiring 25% of the city to do it? I see a bright yellow shirt (city employee shirts) and city vehicles driving around town all times of the day(and i am stuck in an office most of mine). Anyone ever wonder why we have this many employees working for the city? Dont get me started on the police services or trash carriers, because we would be here all day. I know i am not alone in being fustrated with the current status of our city.

@Zeus, I don’t know whether you left your comment on the correct blog entry. It seems out of place, and you refer to a female city manager in Roanoke, but we haven’t had a female city manger in some time. Anyway, I obviously approved it even though it confused me.

I love the white house rolls and wish there was someway I could get them here in Greensboro, NC. I buy them and pies everytime I go to Richmond but do not get there much anymore. I love the Chocolate Pie and Pecan pies.

Are you in any krogers near the NC line like maybe Martinsville or Danville or others. I would appreciate an answer. The rolls are the best I have ever had.

  18. Lindsey Nair | October 9, 2012 at 10:20 am

Betty, according to the White House Rolls website, the rolls are available at all Virginia Kroger stores under the brand name Good Meadow and they are in North Carolina Kroger stores under the brand name White House Rolls. If I were you, I’d ask at the nearest Kroger. They may be hidden in the deli department or something.
Here is where I found that information online:
