A new eatery that will serve Italian and Mediterranean fare will soon open on Williamson Road near its intersection with Hershberger Road.
Jerusalem Restaurant is the brainchild of Fathi Jadid and his business partner, Neadal Kanan. According to Kanan’s wife, Katie Kilbane, Jadid is originally from Tunisia, which is located on the far north edge of Africa, across the seas from Italy. Kilbane said Jadid has been cooking Italian food for 25 years, most recently at Alpha Pizzeria in Blacksburg and Italiano in Salem.
“Opening a restaurant has been a dream of his for a long time,” she said.
Kilbane and her husband, who is originally from Jordan, moved to Roanoke from Cleveland about six years ago.
The restaurant will serve lunch and dinner, with a heavier emphasis on Italian food than Mediterranean. The Italian side of the menu will include appetizers, subs, pizza and other lunch fare while the Mediterranean offerings will include things like kabobs and falafel. Kilbane said much of the Mediterranean fare will likely be available as daily specials.
It occurs to me that this is the second new pizza joint planned to open on Williamson Road recently, which is going to be nice for the folks who live in that area. The other is Gigino’s, the new incarnation of Geonetti’s/Frank’s, which used to be in downtown Roanoke but has relocated to the stretch of Williamson Road near Brookside Golf Club.
Jerusalem Restaurant is tentatively expected to open a week from today.
