Retail business writer Amanda Codispoti yesterday reported on her blog, The Storefront, that the Roanoke Weiner Stand will soon close for two to three months to make way for continued renovations to Center in the Square.
At this time, it appears that the weiner stand will reopen in a new location closer to the Center in the Square’s main entrance. But when it closes temporarily on May 5, there might be a whole lot of folks hungry for a RWS fix until the reopening.
I had a Roanoke Weiner Stand hot dog on Saturday, in fact. We were hanging out upstairs at Cornerstone watching the festivities in the street below and I couldn’t get over how long the weiner stand line was all day. It was amazing how many people wanted to stop in for a St. Patty’s Day dog. Cornerstone was so packed and the servers were so far in the weeds that we darted across the street as soon as the line died down to grab a quick bite.
I know folks who eat at the Roanoke Weiner Stand weekly, if not daily! How are these people going to get by without their daily dog? If you are a big RWS fan, tell me what it is about the food and the establishment that keeps you coming back. Will you seek hot dogs elsewhere while the place is closed or will you stay faithful to the stand and wait until it reopens?
Meanwhile, stay tuned while Amanda works on getting some more information about the closure, what weiner stand employees will do in the interim, and what the new space might be like. Oh, and how about that rooftop restaurant they’re trying to put in at Center in the Square? That ought to be interesting, as well.
