Cookbook giveaway: “The Kitchen Diva’s Diabetic Cookbook”

I have a special opportunity this morning for my diabetic readers. I have two loved ones who are diabetic, so I know this condition touches many, many lives. And if the rest of us think it is challenging to come up with meals to put on the table, think of how much more difficult it must be when you have to be extra-careful about your blood sugar.

But modern cookery has improved so much in terms of diabetic recipes. And this book, “The Kitchen Diva’s Diabetic Cookbook” by Angela Shelf Medearis, is loaded with lots of awesome-looking recipes, such as Beefy Mini Meat Loaves, Sushi-Style Crab roll, Mexican Hot Chocolate, Chicken and Apples with Lemon Balsamic Sauce, Baked Catfish with Green Onion and Butter Sauce, Roasted Tomatoes Stuffed with Lemon and Herb Cauliflower Couscous, and Fudge Pudding Cake.

For a chance to win this cookbook, please leave a comment on this blog entry and tell me why you want this book on your book shelf! The deadline is noon tomorrow (Friday), at which time I will announce a winner and share a couple of recipes from the book. Including that Fudge Pudding Cake recipe! Yum!

I would actually like this cookbook to give to a friend whose new boyfriend is diabetic. He has been a true blessing in her life. She and I are always cooking & baking but I know she feels bad that he can’t try most of the treats we make. This would give us all kinds of creative and delicious options that he could enjoy too.

I would like to have this cookbook on my shelf. I just found out my sugar is borderline and I defintely need to make some changes in my eating habits.

Since I do not really know where to start, this cookbook will offer me suggestions and meals that I would mostly liely not thought of.

I would love to win this for a friend whose 7 year old daughter was recently diagnosed with Juvenile Diabetes. This would help her immensely.

I would love to have this cookbook on my shelf! My grandfather is a diabetic in complete renal failure (dialysis 3 times a week, insulin 3 times a day). We recently lost my grandmother, his wife, and so he had to make the move from his home in South Carolina, to Roanoke to live with my mother. We have a very hard time trying to feed him things that taste good, but are also good for him. It is a source of constant stress in my family and many fights between my grandfather and my mother. This cookbook may be a great source for recipes he will actually enjoy eating. Especially any deserts as he really deserves a treat every once in a while!

I’d like to win this cookbook so I could help my Mom learn to cook for my Dad. My Dad was diagnosed with diabetes just a couple of years ago. It’s been a difficult transition for my parents – they are both very much “meat and potatoes” people who enjoy desserts.

Dad has really missed having what he considers “normal food”, so I’d really like to be able to cook for him when he comes to visit soon.

There are diabetics on both sides of my family and my best friend is diabetic as well. I have recently found myself to be pre-diabetic. This cookbook would definitely come in handy when cooking for my friends, family and myself!

My husband is diabetic and I frequently use the Betty Crocker one, but I am always trying new recipies to find things that he likes and are different. This one, based on the items you listed, seem to have more of a flavorful selection than the ones I often find. I would love to have this cookbook added to my collection.

I have had diabetis for several years. I take about the maximum pills I can take and also insulin at night. My last Doctor visit showed a high count but the Doctor could not prescribe more pills. She said to control it with diet and exercise. My wife has MS so she cannot spend much time standing in the kitchen cooking. I try to cook healthy but it is difficult with my limitied experience. Perhaps some new recipes will challenge me to try harder.

Trying to prepare low carb food that looks and tastes good isn’t easy. I know because I have diabetes. My husband loves and wants all the delicious carb laden starches and desserts that I can’t have and it’s frustrating to both of us – to him because I seldom prepare them and to me because I can’t have them if I do prepare them. It seems that any of us who have posted could use this cookbook. Good luck to everyone!

I need this cookbook for my mother. She has been struggling with diabetes for several years. Please pick me!

I need this for my mother. She needs to lower her blood sugar either through the use of insulin or diet. Since she hates needles, diet would be the better option.

My husband was diagnosed with diabetes last year. He does really good staying away from soft drinks and such, but sometimes I am at a loss at what to fix for meals.

My mom has diabetes so I would like this for more recipe ideas

Cookbooks that are geared towards people with diabetes are good for everyone. Research in controlling diabetes has come a long way, and I am sure that this cookbook will reflect the need for portion control, fresh fruit and veggies, and lean meats. I would love to refer to this cookbook in my kitchen adventures!

My father is a diabetic and I am pre-diabetic. We both see a nutrition counselor to help us control our sugar. This cookbook would be a great tool!

My husband is diabetic and I would really like to win “The Kitchen Diva’s Diabetic Cookbook. What a treat it would be for me to make dishes that are good for my husband of 43 years! He is such a good, kind man. Thank you, Ms. Medearis for this chance.

I have a great deal of trouble preparing meals for my husband & myself. The Diabetic way ends up so bland. Deserts would really help too, but I need the good food done in a good way.!Your Cookbook, would enhance our meals greatly. We’re starving here.!
