Valley View ice cream shop is closed, but may reopen

Cold Stone Creamery at Valley View Station in Roanoke (the shopping strip that also houses IHOP) is closed. I reached Valley View Station owner Paul Marotte, who confirmed the closure but said he doesn’t know whether it is a permanent one. Marotte said the franchisee is having some financial problems at the moment.

The franchisee, Jamey Elder of Lynchburg, could not be reached for comment today.

Just a heads up: Amanda Codispoti, who covers retail business for The Roanoke Times, will be out on maternity leave for the next 12 weeks. During that time, I will be helping to report restaurant- and food-related retail news, so you may see more of that on my blog.

If you notice a restaurant or food-related business has closed or see a sign that a new place is opening somewhere in Southwest Virginia, please do not hesitate to send me an email at lindsey.nair@roanoke.com, call me at 540-981-3343 or leave a comment on this blog. I would appreciate the tips. Thanks!

I hope coldstone reopens. I have been to the place downtown. I thought it was WAY overpriced and the kid working there was rude. I prefer ice cream over frozen yogurt anyway.

I’m waiting to hear how (or if) Cold Stone will make good on the gift card I recently received.

I have a call in to the franchisee and the company’s PR to see what you’ll be able to do, Jeff. Maybe you can use it at a different location. I will report back.

I sure hope it reopens under new management!! I hate these people that open a franchise who do not know what they are doing!!It is a great place that would do well with the right management!!Why make the general public suffer for Jamey mismanagement!! Someplease come in and get Jamey Elder out and a real mangement team in!! Save clodstone or open it in another location!! Any takers??

There is a Cold Stone in the massive development at Christiansburg. I would bet that they direct you there to redeem your coupon.

I’ve put in several calls to the franchisee, as well as a couple of calls to Cold Stone Creamery. Still no return calls, but I will keep trying.

I was directed to call the corp offices in AZ regarding the issue of gift card and possible refunds. I received a call back from a corp office person this evening. I am getting a run around and would love to tell you about it and give the you the contact info that I have.
