Coming soon: City Corner 2

Photo courtesy of Sonya Chappelear of Roanoke.

The family that offers an Asian buffet and salad bar to downtown Roanoke workers will be catering to a sit-down lunch and dinner crowd at their new location. City Corner 2 is set to open on Plantation Road later this year.

Loi and Pranam Nguyen run City Corner at Campbell Avenue and Jefferson Street in Roanoke; they took over from the original owner in April 2011. At that time, the Nguyens added an extensive Thai food menu to the offerings, but with only a few seats available inside that space, it is hard to serve many diners at once.

Dave Hodges, who will be managing the new location with the Nguyen’s son, Mik, said the new place at 3005 Plantation Road can accommodate about 50 seats. That building used to house Bad Wolf BBQ before the BBQ restaurant moved to Williamson Road. Hodges said the Nguyens want to add a patio next year.

City Corner 2 will serve American, Italian and Thai food. I cannot speak for the American or Italian food, but I have tried the Thai food at City Corner and it’s great stuff. Hopefully this will be a nice addition for folks in North Roanoke and Roanoke County.

I have only had Thai food once and it was good. I will have to add them to my list to try. Thanks so much for keeping us informed Lindsey, you do a great job!

Looking forward to zipping across to Plantation from Williamson Road area and trying the Thai. I hope the WR area continues to turn into a food destination and people see the beautiful old houses we live in and our tree lined streets.

Good luck, I hope they succeed, but that location has been several different restaurants since Bad Wolf….

Not to do with the restaurant, but at some point this summer someone (yes, I’m being way precise here)posted a recipe using cherry tomatoes to make a sauce, putting half in the blender and quartering the rest, then baking the dish.

I’ve done it twice now – on pasta, mixed with cheese and herbs – and it’s a great way to use up some cherry tomatoes.

This restaurant is not located in a noticeable place, Although the location and exterior isn’t all too appealing, don’t let it fool you! I came here tonight for dinner with my daughter. We had Thai-ice tea came with cream, roasted duck noodle soup, steamed chicken over fried rice Every item was beautifully fresh, prepared very well, and casually but attractively served. I can’t wait to go back.
