Just be aware that refrigerators are supposed to be at or below 40 degrees. The low might be a little above 40 over the next couple of days, but outdoors is definitely a good option for foods that are not as temperature sensitive as meats and some dairy products.

With this storm, the cold temperature outside is helpful. I am able to place items in coolers out on the back porch without ice. I have several Blue Ice blocks I throw in with them so that helps. In July, it was 104 degrees and all the ice in the world couldn't keep my food cold more than a couple of hours. My life was consumed by the constant, desperate search for ice!

I'm not sure about block ice but you can buy dry ice at the grocery store. I'm told it's usually at the front of the store.
As for block ice, I would think at this stage in the situation you could fill some large plastic containers with water and throw them in the freezer. They would serve as block ice and a full freezer stays cold longer than a half-full freezer anyway.

Haha, I thought about you, Kristen.
Hopefully this blog entry is just about being cautious and we won't actually need any of this information.
Also, at least it won't be 100 degrees outside if the power goes out for this storm!
