Metro! celebrates 10th anniversary

A diner enjoys sushi and wine at Metro! The Roanoke Times / File photo.

Metro! in downtown Roanoke will celebrate 10 years in business tomorrow (Nov. 1). It doesn’t seem to me as if it has been 10 years since the restaurant opened. I guess time flies when you’re eating sushi and drinking martinis.

To celebrate the anniversary, Metro! owner and executive chef Andrew Schlosser is offering nightly entree specials for $20 each. He said these specials will probably run through the end of the year. They are:

Monday: Maryland-Style Jumbo Lump Crab Cake, Seasonal Vegetables and Citrus Butter Sauce

Tuesday: Braised Lamb Shank, Seasonal Sides and Roasted Garlic Lamb Jus

Wednesday: Prime Seared Sirloin Steak with Chef Selected Sides and Red Wine Béarnaise

Thursday: Cornmeal Fried Oysters with Malt Vinegar Remoulade, Mashed Potatoes and Seasonal Vegetables

Friday: Seafood Bouillabaisse with Shrimp, Mussels, Scallops, Saffron Tomato Broth and Stone Ground Grits

In addition to these specials, Metro! is planning an anniversary party for Saturday, Nov. 10 that will feature some free hors d’oeuvres at 10 p.m., a champagne toast at midnight and music by DJ Stylus Chris. Schlosser said the party will harken back to the soft opening they had on Oct. 30, 2002, just before they opened. Check the Metro! Facebook page to keep up with the plans.

Congratulations to Andy Schlosser and his team on 10 years of success in a difficult business.

I love love love Metro. We’re looking for a place to camp out this evening…maybe this is it.

What is going on with Sweet Providence? We stopped by a few Saturdays and it looked like it was closing or remodeling.

Anne, I’m going to answer this question on the next blog entry, Tendergrass Farms, because the two topics are directly related.
