Recent restaurant openings

In case you missed the news over the holiday weekend, the Roanoke Weiner Stand reopened in downtown Roanoke on Friday. Reporter Mason Adams has the story here.

The reopening came after several months of delays, which stemmed from disagreements between the restaurant owners and Center in the Square.

Mason reported that a lot of folks on the market on Friday were excited to see the place open again. Have you been down there for a hot dog? If so, how did you like the new place?

Also, as long as we are on the topic of newly opened restaurants, I want to make sure you are all aware that the Wasena City Tap Room is open at 806 Wasena Avenue in southwest Roanoke. According to the restaurant’s Facebook page, the hours are Monday through Wednesday, 11 a.m. to midnight; Thursday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 2 a.m.; and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Also open are Bayou Lucy’s at 677 Brandon Avenue in Roanoke (click this link to see a menu for the Cajun/Creole place) and Sidewinders Steakhouse and Saloon at 16 Campbell Avenue downtown, which opens today for lunch, according to its Facebook page.

Has anyone noticed that China Buffet is open in Vinton?
It is located in the same shopping center as Food Lion on Rt 24. I have been there with friends for lunch at least 6 times now and the food, service and staff are great. The buffet is always fresh, great choices on it and the food tastes wonderful. We have been greatly impressed by them.
I know they are a bit out of the way, but worth the trip. Lunch buffet is only $6.00 per person. Cheaper than MickeyD’s and so much better.
I am surprised nobody has mentioned it or reviewed it. Leaves more for me I guess! LOL
But seriously, go try it. You will be pleasantly surprised!

The former Yogurt Cafe’ location (same shopping center as Ruby Tuesday on Electric Road in Roanoke) has reopened as a transformed entity – Teriyaki Grill. Oddly enough, they still have most of the frozen yogurt business going aside from the incredibly tasty cuisine. It’s not a sit down dinner type of place – more of a lunch or quick dinner spot. We both tried the rice bowls – they’re exactly what they say they are: Meat and rice with teriyaki sauce. I tried chicken, he tried the chicken and steak combination. Both were very, very good. The chicken was a mix of white and dark meat – which was, to me, a surprise. You can get all white meat for an upcharge. In fact, there were a lot of things you could do for an up charge – noodles instead of rice, brown rice instead of white, double meat, etc.

It’s set up so that you order at the counter and they’ll bring the food (in nicely sized / quality to-go containers) to your table. The service was phenomenal and the ladies working this evening took the time to make sure we enjoyed the food, that we knew what was in it (no oils, no MSG), and to see if we needed anything else. Apparently, they’ve only been open a couple weeks. We’ll definitely be going back. It’s fast, cheaper than a lot of places, and tastes healthier than typical fast food. :) Since they’re running a special (buy one, get one half off on entrees – until 12/15), our meal, with fountain sodas, was just under $15.
