If you attended the Souper Bowl fundraiser this weekend and tasted all those yummy soups, you’re probably wondering who won.

According to Sandra Pratt with Wheeler Broadcasting, which organized the event, the results were:

1)  The River and Rail Restaurant – Caramel Apple Soup with spiced pecans and homemade marshmallows

2)  Friendship Retirement Community – 3 From the Sea-Food Bisque

3)  Regency Room at Hotel Roanoke – She Crab Soup

Congratulations to all the winners!

Last year’s winner was Salem Terrace at Harrogate, where Michele Carder was the executive chef. Michele has since become the chef at Friendship Retirement Community, so she placed again. Here is her winning recipe from last year for Buffalo Chicken Chowder.

I’m working on getting some more details about this year’s soups and the others featured at the event. I’m hoping to even get some of the recipes to share with you all. If you went, which soup was your favorite?

We were at the Souper Bowl on Sunday.Had a great time. Everyone’s soup was delicious. This event is definately a win-win situation; good soup, good cause. A special shout-out to those responsible for the wonderful handcrafted bowls. Lindsey, maybe we will see you there next year.

This was a great event. For $25.00 I got a beautiful hand made bowl. All the soup I could eat and a warm feeling of giving to the Rescue Mission and Ram House. My vote went to the new chef at Salem Terrace.

Thanks so much for getting the winners! My two favorite were the Regency Room and the River and Rail. I loved the She Crab soup, but crab is one of my favorite foods. I was torn between voting for that and the River and Rail. I had never had a soup like that before, it was great. My husband’s favorite was the Friendship Retirement Home’s. That one also had a great presentation for such a little cup.

It was a great event that we enjoyed. All of the soups were great and you could tell everyone working their station enjoyed what they did. Not to mention the awesome bowls we got to pick out and take home with us.

Already looking forward to next year!

The Caramel Apple Soup by The River and Rail was fantastic. I was also a big fan of the potato soup by Blue Apron & the smoky tomato soup by Local Roots. It was a great event!

Loved Loved Loved all three of the winning soups!! I voted for the 3 from the Sea while my husband voted for the Caramel Apple. I have to say, those two had a little something extra that likely kept them on the radar of the tasters while deliberating among so many soups. My only thought on the Caramel Apple Soup….could I really enjoy more than a taste or two? It was very unique but quite sweet, a cup may have been too much.
On another note, the ‘flow’ of that space is not the best for the large crowd that needs to move from restaurant to restaurant for such an event. Maybe if they moved the silent auction items and bowl pick up to another area of the museum or even to the Norah’s space and kept that entryway/atrium free for JUST SOUP, a lot of backups and crowding could be avoided. And requiring that every restaurant have a posting as to what their soup was would also be great,(most did but a few didn’t that I could see). I stood in line on several occasions only to find out that the soup I was waiting for was something I couldn’t have. I know this isn’t the right place to comment on that type of thing, but maybe organizers will read this and take that into consideration next time. :)

Noodle, that was my question about the caramel apple soup. It sounds very, very sweet. I’m not sure if I’d want an entire bowl of it.

The event was quite fun to attend. While my fiance and I both voted for the Hotel Roanoke we felt that we would have voted for Friendship had they come a little better prepared for the event. By the time we go to their table they had run out of shrimp to go on top of the soup. We felt that we missed out on quite a bit with its absence. I was particularly fond of the Chicken Tortilla soup as well (forgive me for not remembering off hand who the presenter of that soup was.)
