Reviewer Nona Nelson recently checked out 1906 Ale House, the new restaurant in Grandin Village that took over space formerly occupied by The Isaacs Mediterranean restaurant.

Despite a few small glitches, she says she experienced prompt service and satisfying meals at the Ale House, saying the braised short rib with bordelaise sauce (pictured above) was “one of the most comforting tastes I have enjoyed in a long time.”

I just had lunch there today. Had the cauliflower bisque and Kentucky Hot Brown sandwich. Both were good.

Had dinner ther last weekend and had the ravioli that she mentions in the review…very obviously homemade and wonderfully flavorful!! And those onion rings are ridiculous and soooo good too! I also agree with the comment on the yummy salsas and have to add that I appreciate that they have a few ciders on the menu for those of us who can’t stand beer. I had a lovely blackberry pear cider there that I will look for in the future.

I had a burger and fries there a couple of weeks ago. They were very good. The burger was nice and juicy and I appreciated that the fries were piping hot. I’ll have to try the Kentucky Hot Brown the next time I’m there.

My wife and I had a few drinks and an appetizer there a couple of weeks ago. We really enjoyed the beer selection (Founder’s Breakfast Stout on tap!) and atmosphere.

The ale-battered scallops and fries appetizer is unbelievably good.

Wow…I guess I need to go back. My first experience there was right after they opened. Went in for just a beer at the bar, saw what others had ordered and the food looked great. So we went back for dinner….big disappointment…sat in the middle of the dining room for more than 15 minutes no service not even water. Other people we knew were there too and were not being served. Even went over and talked to them for awhile to get their perspective..which was the same as ours….so we left. Swore never to go back. But, sounds like they’ve shipped up. Will go back and let you know how it is.

Kim, we had a problem with slow service at 1906 when we visited not long after it had opened. The food was great — I had a veggie pita with some outstanding slaw on it — but we waited a long time for our meal.
The things I’ve heard since then give me the impression that they had some initial kinks with the service when they first opened, but it seems as if they’ve gotten a lot better.
That’s why I usually don’t go to a restaurant within the first couple of months after it opens.
