Note: Apparently this was a September 2012 ranking that was sent to the newspaper under the guise of a fresh news item last week. Oh well, I hope you find it interesting anyway! – LN
The Daily Meal website has been shoveling a lot of love our way lately. Last week, I reported that it named Bruno’s GastroTruck of Smith Mountain Lake one of the 101 best food trucks in America. This week, Virginia Tech tops the list of 52 colleges and universities across the country for its food.
“This university topped our list for its incredible food, student engagement, and commitment to all things local and sustainable. It truly exceeded our wildest expectations for college dining,” the website stated.
Virginia Tech Dining Services ought to be accustomed to receiving kudos by now, though. For the past seven years, it has ranked among the top three college dining programs by The Princeton Review. Restaurants & Institutions magazine awarded the program the Ivy Award, which honors foodservice operations, in 2009.
The Daily Meal tends to do these “best of” lists a lot. On the website right now are the 40 Best Burgers, the Top 10 Chain Restaurant Burgers, and Top Sunset Restaurants. I don’t say that to belittle this award, but to put it in perspective.
Tech can add this to its long list of accolades for the dining program. To see the entire list of awards and recognitions, click here.
If you went to VT, did you like the food? If you went to school somewhere else, how was the food there?
