Radford is losing the Alejandro’s Mexican Grill located inside Best Western on Tyler Avenue. Meanwhile, a new Alejandro’s will open in Salem, in the W. Main Street space that formerly housed Burger Bistro and Five Guys Burgers and Fries.
Moses Nucamendi, who owns Alejandro’s with his wife, two brothers and chef Eddie Madera, said business at the Radford restaurant was too slow, perhaps because the location was “awkward.” The Radford restaurant’s last day in business will be Sunday, Aug. 4.
Nucamendi said they’re sprucing up the interior of the Salem space, but no major renovations were necessary. If everything goes as planned, including an ABC license coming through, they hope to open by Aug. 19, he said. The Salem location will have the same menu as the other Alejandro’s locations, along with a salsa bar. It will also have the same service style, with orders taken at the counter during lunch and tableside at dinner.
The first Alejandro’s location opened on Campbell Avenue in downtown Roanoke in late 2007. Since then, additional locations have opened in Hollins, Christiansburg and Radford.
