Dentists all over Roanoke should be rubbing their hands together with glee, because The Candy Store — a new store that opened on Campbell Avenue on Wednesday — is a veritable wonderland of sugar.
It matters not how old you are. If you have a sweet tooth, your eyes will light up when you walk into this store. Heck, even if you don’t like sweets, the store is so colorful it’s like candy for the eyes.
Lawson Jaeger and his brother, Robert, are co-owners of this store. They are both native Roanokers who recently returned to the area after living in Knoxville and Nashville (Lawson) and New York and Connecticut (Robert).
Lawson said they have 1,200 different kinds of candy in the store. I saw everything from giant gummy rats to chocolate-mint malt balls. I didn’t sample a rat, but those malt balls are scrumptious. Also, I’ve never seen so many different kinds of chocolate bars in my life. Willy Wonka would be proud.
The Candy Store is located next door to Benny Marconi’s. It is open Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.; and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Bulk candy is $2.25 per quarter-pound for non-chocolate stuff and $3.25 per quarter-pound for chocolate candy.
Take the kids by there very soon. That way, you’ll have an excuse to buy yourself some candy.
